today and it feels good to be back in a routine. We usually start the morning out with silent reading for one hour. They get to read a book of their choice and then we continue with daily lessons from there. We do a lot of home making and they are both learning how to cook and use the stove (ages 12 and 13). My daughter loves to sing, she does "choir" and practices singing everyday. My son loves to write and draw so he does a lot of those activities as we progress through the day. I find that I need the consistency as much as they do.

The kids went back to school here on wed as well. I was supposed to go back to work on wed as well but i am sick with bronchitis and laryngitis so I'm off work until Monday. It does feel good once your back into your daily routine again after the hectic holiday stuff.

I do hope you are feeling better. Having bronchitis and laryngitis is not any fun. I love the consistency of an everyday routine.

I take it, then, that you follow your local school district's schedule? I'm always interested in how homeschoolers handle different things, because I want to home school the children I hope to eventually adopt.

Sorry to butt in here, but I also Home School and I do follow the public school schedule for my daughter. It just makes things a little easier... Especially when my daughter has cousins that go to public school, this way their all off at the same time and can play together. =)

I know how quiet it was this morning when the kids were reading and getting into their lessons. I love quiet moments like that at least once a day

Hi Good one. It sounds your kids are really punctual about everything. They follow the timing . Good hobbies/interests as well. Yes children should be encouraged in their fields which they love to . You are in the right direction.

Thank you Prashu. I love having the flexibility of letting the kids learn at their own pace and in their own way. Today for science we were learning about the right and left brains and how each person learns, whether they are left brain dominant or right brain dominant. The kids really enjoyed this one too and getting a little more insight into which category they fall.

It is really nice to read all these lines, I think your kids are interesting enough to catch anyone's attention. What I think is required is to give them enough knowledge so that they can become self decisive to chose their profession in the later stage. If one is interested in writing then it is necessary that she has enough knowledge and base to write something good, otherwise she has to learn it hard way in later stages. Music is again a good field and there is a big space to be filled with good music. Everybody is receptive to any new good creation.

My daughter went back yesterday and it was nice having the routine back! I cannot wait until she is fully reading where she can have a reading time as well... But our days are busy with the routine! Right now she is doing an art project, after that we will be having lunch then workbook time. =-)

I know I really need a consistent routine here at home as well. We usually finish all homeschooling activities between 12pm and 1pm. What kind of art projects do you have your children do?
