Shopping for bargains

My daughter and I went shopping for Birthday presents for each other as our Birthdays are close together. We went to a very nice wholesale store that had purses, jewelry, accessories, hats, scarfs, belts, shoes - all for women. And everything is very pretty and not very expensive. The items look good but they are reasonably priced. We had fun shopping together where we could pick out what we really wanted. I paid for what she wanted and she paid for what I wanted. We spend the same amount on each other, but it was the thought and the fun of shopping for each other that really make it special. Then we went window shopping in a very classy, upscale shopping center. We both decided that we were never going to pay the high prices for purses, jewelry and accessories because we are quite happy paying the reasonable prices. For both my daughter and I, the purses looked the same - just had different price tags. If I had lots of money, (and my daughter feels the same way) I would rather spend it on more worthy things that buy a high-end purse or accessories. If you had the money would you spend $240 for a high-end purse or would you still be happy with paying $30 for a nice looking purse?

Glad to see you being a mom with a daughter, leading a beautiful life:) You really are a great mom! I think what I concern more about goods is the quality. If both items are equally goodlooking, I'd compare their quality. So I'd rather pay a higher price if I could get a more delicate one, which can be used for a long time and become more and more meaningful to me. But, for a purse, I'd say $30-100 is enough, and the quality of a $30 one wouldn't be bad I suppose. When shopping, a good price/performance should be the dominant principle for us to follow.

We did indeed have a good time together. I only have one daughter and so our Mother/Daughter time together is indeed special.

In my situation, I'm going for the $11 purse. But if I had the extra money, I think I would look more towards quality. If the $240 purse will last me way longer and has features that I really need, I would go for it, rather than having to replace the $30 purse more often.

But I think with we women, it is easy to get bored with something like a purse. It goes out of style or starts to look a little ratty. So, to spend the money on an expensive purse, I would want to make sure it stays looking good for many, many years and that it doesn't go out of style. I think I will settle for the $30 purses that I can replace every few years and keep them looking nice and in style. :)

Hi Zoe! I agree with you and am like you. I would not spend money on an expensive items such as wallet or purse rather I would like to buy products of my use. I believe that my hard earned money is important for me and I should not waste my money on expensive products without which am not going die.

To be honest I would still pay $240 for a high-end purse. I dunno why, sometimes it's just the feeling that I feel good that I could afford something like it though I'm not so particular with high-end brands myself. I've bought some high-end brands before that I didn't end up using for a long time.

I love being in fashion. But I would always stick to a an inexpensive version of bags, clothes and shoes. That way, I could still save a few bucks and buy other important things.

I will take a nice purse with the little money. I want to get the smile of my near ones when shopping. I feel very good when somebody praises me just for that. When shopping for my mother i take the ones she likes. Cost is not a big matter for me. Sometimes she also gives me something. It is true that I am immensely happy if someone gives me in return. Be it something small.

In my case i would first see both high-price as well as reasonably priced items. If in any case I feel both of them have same quality then I would definitely go for the reasonably priced item. Again before I buy i will prioritize what I really want. If I want a genuine leather purse in that case I will be left with no option but to shell out a little more money. But, I will definitely do research to find out where i can get what i want at the right price. I would not prefer shelling out my hard-earned money just like that. Regards, Narthan

Personally when you have worked real hard for your money, and money isn't easy coming, even if I came into some money I still wouldn't spend that kind of money on one article, $240 sounds way OTT just for a purse, was it made in 24 carat Gold? Seriously though some people must pay that price, otherwise why would they mark it up that high! At the end of the day a purse is a purse. Think of all the things you could buy with $240!

that is the price we pay for groceries for two weeks (actually, a little bit more!) there is no way on earth i would pay that kind of money for a purse. in fact, i dislike spending more than $20 on a purse (although i do like a leather purse, but they are out of my budget.) i often shop at thrift stores for a purse because most of them are in pretty good shape and i like to change my purses around fairly often so if i can pick up a purse for $5-$10, i am very happy.

It depends. If the one I'm buying for is fond of high-end products I would sacrifice my money for that. If she isn't, then I would rather buy many items on bargain but good looking more or less with the same amount.

I think over prices purses are not worth the money and it is like saying come steal me I am full of money. I found a nice store I plan to get a purse at in the spring. I had seen a purple purse in there I wanted but I didn't have the money for it at the time. I tink it was 35.00 but looked much more expensive.

Hi ZoeJoy! I am glad to know that you and your daughter are doing shopping together. I hope my daughter would be able to finish her studies already and find a good job so that she could also buy something for me. Well, anyway, like you I also love to buy things for me and my family. I know how hard it is to earn money so I am trying my best to save as much as possible. So going on a shops that offers lower prices is one thing that I do. Have a nice day!

At first I dont like bargain shopping. Because its unscientific and the shopkeepers take the opportunity of customers' choice. That means when a customer chooses an stuff, shop keepers try to raise huge profit from it. So I like fixed price shopping. Secondly I have the tendency to buy brand high end product regardless of whether I may afford it or not. Sometimes I budget only to buy the brand products cutting off the rest necessaries. But we should be reasonable in shopping. We should not buy a thing being beyond our affordability.

I will go for the much higher price but with quality. I always go for quality and designed. My principle in life is to buy the best with quality and just stay at home if my money is not enough to buy what I want. What the used of buying something and then let it be in my compartment after few days of using. Anyway you are with your daughter it's different monetary value is nothing compared to sentimental value on the days to come.

Dear, Shopping is a good thrilling and enjoying with reasonable price. Even I and my daughter go for shopping and does the same thing. we never give a high price for any of the items we but. We look for a goods which is reasonable and can be bought as per our budget. Getting into a hipper market is expensive but in a big bazar it is comparatively cheaper. For fabrics Pantaloons are expensive and I never go for shopping, but take a look for each and very stuff and their price tags.

What I am looking forward are bargain sales in department stores. There are times in a year or even in a month that department stores in our place will have a sale in which they will give up to 70 per cent discounts on certain items. If I have money they I will buy what I needed from there. I go for quality of the products but if I don't have extra money then I will also buy the cheap but nice looking items.

I work as a cashier, and I sometimes think that people have more money than they know what to do with. I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay over $200 for a purse. I don't even like paying $30 for a purse. I guess some people would consider me cheap!!!! I've seen people pay almost $100 for a garbage can and I wonder why someone would be willing to pay that much for something to store rubish when you could get one for a lot less. That's just me though.

it is not the prices that is important in this story. It is not how much you saved, or how practical both of you are. It is not how the cheap purses look dainty as the expensive ones. but it is the mother-daughter bonding that makes this discussion interesting. It is very warming and all I can do is to ---. Your question... i don't spend any for purses. Most of my purses dainty or not were just given to me. My nieces used to buy a lot and most of their purses are used only for a few times then they don't like anymore. So they give some to me since I expressly told them, if they don't like their bags and purses just give it to me than have them stored or thrown. LOL
