When commuting or riding in a public transportation like jeep, do you pay your fare immediately or just when your are quite near to your destination? Before, when I am riding in a jeep or fx, I used to pay my fare when my destination is quite near, but now it changed. I used to pay my fare now once I have already ride in a jeep or fx so I could get my change right away if my fare is bill. There is one incident where I was near my destination when I pay my fare yet the driver dont have change for it since most of the passengers dont pay exact fare as well. The driver have a hard time to give change to their passengers so they have to stop to some gas station to change some bills that somehow cause delay in time especially if someone is in a hurry. I have learned that when riding in a public jeep or fx, I always check my money if I do have exact fare amount or have smaller bills in wallet to avoid cause of delay and could help the driver as well.

hi there ardoy, when i ride the jeepney, i make sure that i no longer have to wait for a change, this meant, that i do not need to have to wait and worry when my change would be given to me, i wonder why other people would even pay 100 pesos early in the morning. i think i just want to be responsible and that i know i need to be able to get off the jeep whenever possible. I know someone who gave out 100 to pay for bus fare, but then usually the conductor forgot or has intentionally not given him his far... but when he was about to get off, since he was in a hurry, yeah he forgot his change too!

that is right, actually that is true, they should have change available, but often they don't have any so for me, to avoid being delayed , i would really just prepare and exact amount to pay them each morning. I hate to be hassled all the time. =) have a great day!!

Oh right that its our responsibility to have exact fare but driver should have change as well. But I think its a give and take so better just pay exact fare to avoid any delay on ourselves and for other people as well. Lets not add into the problem by paying quite big bills in the morning. I guess we could do a change and help even this way.

It depends on the destination but when I am riding a jeep going to work especially if I would be drop in the office itself then usually I am really preparing the exact amount for the jeep then I am going to pay them if I will stop them on the place itself. I am actually working in J.P. Rizal Avenue of Makati and the street is quite wide so chances are I don't want to cross the street and I am afraid of it if I am going to do that everyday. I am doing this because I am so pissed off with other drivers that I am going to tell that they should stop on the right side but they keep on stopping on the left side even if it is not hard to go on that lane. As I am pissed off then chances are I am not paying the other drivers who wouldn't follow my instruction.

haha yeah they are irritating when they pretend that they do not hear us at all. its just annoying especially when everyone in the jeepney was already calling out to him.

Yeah there are some drivers who act like that, as if they dont hear us. There are some also who have loud music then they cant hear when the passenger have to get off the vehicle, in result the passenger will still have to walk a bit since they stop quite over reach our destination. There are some drivers who are quite irritating that I do avoid to ride in.

"Barya lang po sa umaga" (Loose change only on mornings) , that usually the sticker i see on jeepneys, and learn from that, ardoy. At night, when i arrange my bag, i always take a peek at my wallet if it contains loose change of 18 pesos . That way, if there are any, i would ask my husband if he has and change my money with him, because he always has. Or i would get some from the wallet where it contains loose change from my "coffee business". Usually when i have a big bill in the morning as i ride the jeepney, i would give it outright to the driver so he could allocate the fares given to him as my change. And when he gives a change of a big bill to another one that came later than me, i would remind him of mine. So yes, always check your wallet for enough fare before you go out of the house for work, ardoy.

Some drivers are opportunists ardoy. They would intentionally not give you the change, in the hope that you will forget them. But i don't let that happen to me again, so i always prepare my exact fare , the night before.

Yeah we really have to observed the barya lang po sa umaga slogan which is really helpful and to avoid delay if the driver dont have enough coins for change. There are also time wherein we have to remind the driver for our change especially if we have to disembark already. There are drivers who are like that who dont give change right away even though they have enough coins for change.

my mother said that i will only pay the fare when i am nearly approaching to the place where i go but when i did that i sometimes forgot to pay the fare so as of now i change it,i always pay right away or as early as i can so that i will never forget to pay.

I think paying right away is more convenient in case there will needing for change and to avoid to forget paying the fare. At least you wont worry if there will be no change right away or if you will forgot it or so.

I always try to prepare enough change for fare whenever I ride a Jeep. Like you said, they don't give the change immediately. There was that one instance when I forgot to get my change due to a phone call. On the other hand, how come jeepney drivers almost always don't have enough coins especially in the early morning. Perhaps they spent it all for gasoline but I simply hope they have at least around 50 pesos in coins so that commuters won't have difficulty getting their change. However, commuters should also be considerate enough not to pay with a 100 peso bill for an 8 pesos fare. They would really get the wrath of the jeepney driver especially when it is the first trip.

Oh yes there are some instances that we forgot to get our change especially if we are doing something like unexpected call or if we are in a hurry. There some drivers also who are so forgetful about change or do they intend to do so, there some who get mad if someone pay big bills then it is just their first trip. Yes we could be considerate about paying exact fare to avoid simple problmes like this.

I try to give the exact change to jeepneys because the drivers get mad whenever you give them a big bill and you're getting off. They procrastinate saying that this is a busy street or peak hour and there's no wasting time when you could have given your fare ahead of time before your destination. It is true because you don't want to wait for some other passenger when you are in a hurry.

Well giving exact fare really mean a lot and a big help for the driver and the passengers. The fact that it will be lessen to the delay of travel since riding a public transport consume time trael when the passengers as keep riding in and gettin off between travel period.

I also pay my fare immediately when I board a public transport vehicle. This is to avoid experiencing the scenario that you just mentioned, having no change when you're about to get off. I also see to it that I already have loose change so I could pay the exact fare immediately. If I don't have loose change, I try to break a hundred or even a thousand by buying fast food to go.

I hate that scenario as well especially if on a hurry or get late for about few minutes at work due to that. It is really important that we have exact fare or small bills for payment so that our travel will be smooth and on time.

I pay the fare right after I ride at a public vehicle like passenger jeepney. Sometimes we forgot to pay right away we notice it when the driver calls for a reminder for those who are not paying already. It is shameful sometimes. The drivers are merely observing the passengers after they sit for a ride.

Oh sometimes it shameful if the drivers still have to remind the passengers for their fare but there are some passenges who dont like that. Well I guess its the drivers right to ask for the fare sincr its where they live and earn money. We really have to pay exact fare to avoid delay not for ourselves but for other passengers as well and for the driver too.

I usually pay right away because I might forget when I am approaching my destination. I hate to be stopped by the driver and be called out because I haven't paid yet.also, I usually do that - pay and sleep when the distance is quite long. At at least, nobody will wake me because I haven't paid yet.

Well I do it sometimes, to pay right away to have some sleep during travel rather than seeing traffic around the metro. I guess paying roght away is really good to avoid delay or whatsoever.

Hi ardoy! It is a better to prepare an exact amount for fare to avoid any delay on both our part and other people as well. Also paying as soon as I ride the jeepney is a good option. Have a nice day!

Yeah good option and nice way as well of not causing delay to others especially if our fare do need change. Sometimes driver having difficult time giving change since there are no coins for change so better pay exact amount.

When I was still there, I also pay as soon as I get in so the driver still knows the change or the fare since I just got on. Also, like you said that gives him enough time rack up some change for me. Just to be on the safe side, I always bring my coin purse because some drivers wouldn't bother to give you your change if it's just a peso. I still want it, lol!

Loose change that we used to put in our coin purse really help a lot, quite heavy sometime but still helpful all the time. I also hated those drivers who dont give change even it is just a peso or two, I know that it is just a small amount yet we still work hard for it and it do have value as well.

Yes, you are absolutely right. It is a big help for them to pay an exact amount and having a very high bill is a burden for them. I am paying my fare right away that I am riding in the public transportation and my fare is always ready. I am not going to work or any place if I do not have any available smaller bill or coin in the purse as a courtesy to the driver.

Yeah a big help though not only for the driver but for the other passengers as well. Sometimes there are some drivers who get mad as you have said if their passengers pay big bills since it will cause delay into their travel. It will consume time to look for some place like gas station to look for change.

I appreciate your changed for the better. You're not only helping yourself but other commuters. Most especially the driver. How I wish all of the commuters would have radical change as well like you. Keep it up.!! Share your story to others for encouragements.

Oh thanks for appreciating it. I have from my experienced so I do change for something not for myself but for other people as well. It is quite a small change yet helpful somehow. Observing something around us really help a lot not only for us but for there people too no matter how small or big it is.

I always pay immediately when riding a jeepney or FX. As you've mentioned, there are times when the driver do not have change and this might cause delay that would affect the other commuters. What I do is I always make sure that I either have the exact amount or smaller bills ready for my fare.

what i do is to pay right away once i get into my seat. i usually have an exact fare. if not, then i pay right away so that the driver has ample time to give me a change. i do not like drivers who do not have enough coins. i think it is imperative for them to have sufficient coins because it is their job and they of course expect people to pay some bills and not coins.

I am doing the same things as well to pay the fare right away and as much as possible pay the exact fare to avoid getting irritated if the driver almost forgot the change.I guess its driver's responsibilities to prepare change for their passengers.

Most of the time, yes, I would pay my fare right after I am seated in the jeepney. Sometimes I get my change right away. But on two occasions I have not been given my change even when they obviously have coins for a change. I had to wait until I get nearer my destination to remind them that I hadn't gotten my change.

I also experienced that as well.I was almost have to reach my destination and still my change wasn't still given so I have to tell the driver again about it.it is quite irritating sometimes so I rather don't get the change if it is about a peso but that is not right since its quite hard to earn money now.

For me if you have exact money, pay when you are about to disembark but if you have much or extra money pay as early as you can, as a passenger you need some protection. What if something happened to the car on the way and you are still far from home. The most important is you have the intent to pay in other countries like U.S you must pay the exact fare right away on the entrance of the bus.

Well there are some instances that the jeep that I rode in did have some motor malfunction that lead to transferring to other jeep, but the driver did paid the fare that his passengers.
