Finally got a job.

After a long search both in Fl and PA I finally landed a job. I was in Fl. taking care of my mother till she passed away in Sept 2011. Thought I stay there since I have family there and get a job. Approximately 9 months after she passed I still wasn't employed so I came back to Pittsburgh to stay with my son. (That was back in July) The job he had lined up for me fell through. So again going on craigslist, monster and several other job sites I continued my search. Signed up with temp agencies etc, etc. Well my son gets the paper so one Sunday I decide to look at the want ads. There was one job in there I was qualified for, so Monday I called about it. Got an interview for Wednesday, got hired. Imagine that! So don't give up on the newspaper folks that may be where your job is waiting.

Congratulations on finding a job! I have been searching since July in earnest, but have had only TWO interviews. I lost my phone service for a week and of course, that was right after the first interview-when I was supposed to hear back from them; I just got notification from the second one that they've decided to go in a different direction. I'm getting disgusted-when I still lived in Jersey, the longest I ever went without a job was about five and a half months; here in PA, it's over 6 1/2. I have a variety of skills, but some of them are outdated (due to the programs used); I think being out of work and being 40 is making it that much harder to find a job. I cannot stand for hours either. Oh well, that's enough-I've got a paper here and hopefully there will be a job in the classifieds for me to apply to. Not working is starting to really depress me.

Thank you for your kind words. What scares me most is how unpredictable my health is (I have multiple sclerosis). I KNOW I can do the jobs that I've applied to, but the pay is barely over minimum. I'll keep trying though.

Don't give up hope. I was out of work for over a year. I also was being to think that my age was a factor in not finding employment, of course no one will tell you that. I'm 58 yrs although I don't feel it. I like to think I'm still in my 30's There is a job out there for you and it'll come. Just remember it doesn't always come in the time we want, but it will come.

I don't know what your beliefs are, however I will pray for you not only for a job, also for the MS. You will get a job, I believe that, I just don't know what it is. Just consider this if you see a job out there that you are not qualified for and believe you can do it anyway apply for it. You just never know what will happen. Be of good cheer always, even though we get down (really down sometimes) there is always hope. Like the old man Indian said in an old Clint Eastwood movie "We will endeavor to preserver". So endeavor to preserver.

I have a job, but I think I would like a different one. I check the papers and the state job data base and all kinds of places. When the time is right there will be a new job for me. I am glad you have a job, that sure takes the stress off.

Congratulations. I hope I get a job in Pittsburgh when I finish. I am outside of the city but I have no issues with moving into the city to work. I need to go get a newspaper. Someone suggested the newspapers put everything online but I know they don't. I am actually looking for jobs somewhere in OH and PA for when I graduate though there are a few in places like CA and MD I wouldn't mind applying for. I did have to turn down a job recently because while I do live comfortably here, I didn't have the funds to up and move across the country.

What an encouraging message violann. It is good to hear that old methods are still working for those who care to use them. I wish you every success in your new job. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks. Maybe if I had used the newspaper in FL. I wouldn't have to deal with this freezing cold here in PA. :)

That was a good story, I also think that newspapers help us somewhere. Newspapers are criticized by the common people now, but still it has a lot which we can utilize for our own good. Have a nice day.
