A former roommate introduced me to Kerbey Lane Cafe many years ago. Kerbey Lane Cafe is another locally owned restaurant franchise in Austin, Texas. That day I thought their pancakes were the best I had ever tasted, and I've eaten a lot of pancakes. A little over two years ago, a friend treated me to Kerbey Lane Cafe while I was visiting. We went to a different location. I didn't know there was more than one. And they're still opening more. Plus, now they have a website, complete with menus and specials. This came in handy for my friend, because she's always after me to stop taking so long reading the whole menu and place my order. lol One of my favorite things about eating out is enjoying perusing the menu. The pictures, names and ingredients of all the different dishes is like an appetizer for my senses. Anyway, when this friend took me, I read the menu online and wrote down my custom order and tucked it in my purse before we left to go eat. I had an artichoke omelette with basil pecan pesto sauce, a fruit cup, juice, tea. I can't remember what kind of toast, hash browns or grits I had, just that it was all incredibly delicious! I didn't want that meal to end, the food was that good. And our server was the first I'd seen that personified the popular local slogan, "Keep Austin Weird." She was a cross between a 1950s Lucille Ball and punk, but the total effect was really cool to look at, part of the experience, I guess.
