Gall Bladder Surgery

My daughter was born in April of 2012 and ever since she was born, I've had excruciating pain in my upper abdomen and the right side of my body. For the first few months I just ignored it because the pain was random but it wasn't unbearable. Then in August I was rushed to the emergency room because I was in so much pain I couldn't get off the floor. They did some blood work, ran some tests, and did an ultrasound. That's when I found out that my gall bladder was inflamed and I had gall stones. They said I would need it removed but it wasn't an emergency procedure. I wasn't able to get the surgery because the surgeon didn't accept the insurance I had. I had to wait until October of 2012 in order to change my insurance and it wasn't activated until December. While I was waiting on my insurance, I was rushed to the emergency room an additional three or four times. They just kept sending me home with a prescription that didn't help. Finally, my insurance was approved and I got my new insurance card. So I finally got my gall bladder removed this morning! It was an out patient procedure (meaning they sent me home after surgery) and the surgery took an hour and a half because I had so many gall stones. I had eight large ones and a bunch of smaller ones. Everything went fine but I'm in a bit of pain and I've been tired all day. I've been awake for five hours, which is the longest time I've been awake today. They did a small incision in the middle of my upper abdomen, two small incisions on the right side of my stomache, and a small incision in my belly button. They had to go in with a scope and cut the gall bladder out and then they pulled it out through my belly button. I imagine it was pretty disgusting. Lol

well, I'm glad that you finally got it done. I never had any trouble like that but my ex did and I remember that he was in so so much pain and it took them a few trips to the emergency room before they even diagnosed the problem. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Great to hear!! Aw yes..Pizza again. I remember my ex saying that the best part of the surgery besides being pain free was being able to eat a lot of the foods that he loved again with no worries.

I already feel a lot better besides the pain from my stitches. I just had pizza and it's so nice to be able to eat what I want with no pain! Pizza is one thing that used to trigger my gall bladder attacks.

Oh yeah, I'll be so glad when I can eat Chinese with no pain! And I love salad too. Lettuce is one thing that would really cause the worst gall bladder attacks. The doctors said they never heard of lettuce causing it, but it did with me.

Ouch. My husband had his gall bladder and appendix taken out at tithe same time. He has 4 holes. His surgery was over a year ago and he is still heal to some degree you do have to watch out for grease food for sure now.

They told me to stay away from greasy and fatty foods for about two weeks and then afterwards I can go back to eating whatever I want. Greasy, fatty, and spicy foods are usually what really triggered my gall bladder attacks. I'm so glad I won't have that pain anymore.

I guess they forgot to tell you that it can take up to a year for your body to get use to grease in take because of the gall bladder being gone. My husband still has issues with grease food and give him a attack of not pain but loser poops and some people never fully recover form it. There places we physically ca not go and eat at any more because of the lack of his gall bladder.

You just had the "new" gall bladder surgery. A couple of decades ago, doctors cut open your tummy, a 6 or more incision. You had to be hospitalised. And the scar is horrible. I know, because I have it. Congratulations for a good surgery. You will feel fine again in no time at all.

I'm so glad I didn't have the open surgery. They said that if there were any complications they would have had to do open surgery but everything was fine so I didn't need that.
