One of the twins is home now with my daughter-in-law

Back in December, my daughter-in-law who has one son and is married to my younger son had twins. They were premmies and the older one, the water broke too soon so his lungs were not developed. Both boys have improved so the younger twin is now home, but the older twin is still in prenatal. He is trying hard and as soon as he can breathe on his own, will be going home. The trouble is that the older one is now breathing outside air so cannot be brought into the hospital and so one of the parents will have to stay home with him while the other parent visits the other baby. I am waiting until they are both home. So have anyone here had premmies where one had to remain in the hospital while the other went home?

I am so sorry one of the twins is still in the hospital but glad one is home. I will pray for them both. I do not have kids but i do have a friend who had a baby in August of 2012 and he was born 2 months early and had to stay in the hospital for 2 months til he could breath on his own. he wasn't a twin but had older siblings at home. He was so tiny when he was born only weighed 2 pounds. Now tho hes 7 months old and been home awhile and healthy.

My daughter-in-law gives birth to big babies. And had the babies been inside for the whole months they would have been from nine to ten pounds each. AS it was, they were a little over three pounds at twenty-eight weeks gestation. So you can imagine how big they would have been. That would be six and a half months and they could not weight to get out.

You're welcome. I wished they lived near me. For instance, there is a nice house across the lane from me, big enough for them, but the owners are asking too much for it.

Grandkids. And here we do not live in the same street or neighborhood like is common in the States. Their parents live a few miles away. So I am hoping the other baby will be home so that I can both of them together. I get photos of them both, but that is not the same. According to my younger son, Lucas will be home soon to be with his brother, Liam. He is getting bored there in the neonatal unit.

It is excellent one of your daughter in laws twins is now home from the special care baby unit. It is sad the home twin will have to stay away from the in hospital twin. Not one of my children were born prematurely. I have had a home birth with each one of them. My disabled son was taken away at birth into a special care baby unit for three weeks. Then he came home where he has been since. Good luck.

My older daughter-in-law had her two at home, but my younger daughter-in-law had to have a caesarean for the first, and a caesarean for the twins and it had to be done very quickly as they wanted out right away. She could not give birth normally. I hope the baby will be home with his mom and dad. According to my younger son, he will be home pretty soon.

I was very lucky with my twins. They made it almost to 38 weeks, and although they were small, they were both developed enough to go home when I did. I am sure your grandson will be coming home very soon, and hopefully the twins won't have many issues as a result of being premature.

The twins had trouble breathing, so we on the c-pap machines. Now one is home and the other is only on the lowest setting and although still has the nasal prongs, is able to drink from the bottle all the way. So that means that he will be home with his parents. They will not have any issues. My sons who were adopted were premmies and had jaundice, and one of them had something wrong with his aorta that they operated on, and both of them are now married, went to university, got very good careers, and if you go against them in a scrabble game, you'll lose.

Trouble is with the twin at home, I live about a couple of miles away and I am on a budget so cannot see him and my daughter-in-law's family can. That hurts because I hardly got to see the baby I gave up for adoption and when we adopted our boys, they were three months old so really want to see the twins while they are still new borns. And I am so either I buy a car and cannot afford to drive, or afford to drive and cannot afford to buy a car. So it is one or the other.

The one in the hospital is working very hard to get home. He is now just on nasal prongs so it will not be long. They figured first a few months, but it seems that he will be out late March or early April.

We haven't had any twins in our family and luckily both of my children were born healthy so I got to bring them home with me from the hospital when they were only a couple days old. However, two of my nieces did have to spend some time in the NICU after they were born. With my oldest niece, the reason that she had to stay in the NICU was because she was jaundiced. With my youngest niece, she was premature and did have a hard time breathing so she had to stay in the NICU for about 10 days after she was born. Luckily, they are 6 and 1 now and are both healthy little girls. I certainly hope that your other grandson continues to improve so that he can join his brother at home.

He will. He just has the nasal prongs on now. I guess they are to keep his nose open, sort of like those patches people put on their noses to keep from snoring. From the photos, neither of the babies had jaundice but when we adopted our boys at three months, the social worker said that they were jaundiced but now they are married, with children of their own. I think the babies look like my younger so, more head then hair. The oldest boy took after his mother.

I feel sorry to hear that. I hope the other one will get better soon. I believe he'll get better soon. So your daughter in law and your son won't miss him so much. I know it's kind of hard to see one of twin can be home but the other is not yet. But along with his improved condition, I am sure he'll be allowed to be home soon. I'll pray for it.

Thank you. According to my son, he will be home soon. He started to try a little harder breathing and he is now eating out of the bottle, so maybe in a few days.
