I think many other members will be facing this problem in their computers -- duplicate files in the same folder or in the same drive. One these occupy more space and search also becomes difficult. I wanted to delete the duplicate files. I searched in google and got a link easyduplicatefinder.com Have you used this and if so was it useful. pl post your ideas.

Ravi, nice to see you after a long time. How are you? For the first time i am hearing about this site. Is it a software? are we in need to download it to remove the duplicate files? be careful and always switch on your anti virus software while downloading files to avoid unwanted issues

I'm interested in cleaning up our PC, so I did a search on the website you found. Here are reviews from cnet: http://download.cnet.com/Easy-Duplicate-Finder/3000-2248_4-10692636.html (NOT A REFERRAL LINK) and scamadvisor: http://www.scamadviser.com/is-easyduplicatefinder.com-safe.html (NOT A REFERRAL LINK) that both say that it's legitimate. I'd take a look at both of those reviews before making your final decision. Thanks for sharing the link!

If I was using my own computer and understood it more, then I'd probably try it. Right now, we are borrowing my boyfriend's late father's computer, and was warned not to mess it up. I'm saving for my own now.

scorpiobabes that is really nice. "not to mess it up". this will make you save files that are important only. Since I write books I do have multiple files in my computer. good day.

I don't think you need a software to delete duplicate files, because whenever you are copying something that is already there in the same folder, the operating system prompts if you want to replace, or over write the same stuff that is already or if you want to keep the same copy twice. So, unless you keep the same copy of a file twice you don't have to delete the files to begin with, but in case you do, you could just manually select them and delete them, Well that is what i do.

true for a person who is not a regular writer. for me i write quite frequently on different topics/subjects for different purposes and hence i do create these multiple folders/files. thanks for the response.

Thankfully this is not a problem that I've ever had to face with my computer. I believe that the reason that this has not been something that I've had to deal with is the fact that I'm quite anal about the way that I keep things organized. The only duplicate files that I keep on my computer or on my externals are those files that I really feel like I need to keep some good backups of. Those things, like my pictures, are backed up on external hard drives and also on DVDs.

dorannmwin: thanks for the comments. You are good in keeping this organized. You have multiple copies for photos and other important documents only. that is really nice. i also should adopt similar strategies to reduce crowding of space. good day.

Well, although I possess a poor netbook, with reduced capacity (just 1.66 GHz and 1 GB RAM), I have never come across these problems. But I try to keep the system clean, eliminating the superfluous that can overload the system. I must note, however, delays, due in all probability to overload dl registry. Now I personally have never tried this easyduplicatefinder.com to me I'd need more of a registry cleaner. Do you know any good and certainly not dangerous?

Ok, thanks for the advice. However, on the net I found "CCleaner", looks like a good product, the user comments are almost all positive.

Hello alberello -- Italy boy/youth: nice to see your response. It is good to take steps to see that we avoid duplicating files. as a writer i copy the previous folder again in another place so that i can access easily while writing books current required. this way i multiply every time i need to write new papers. that is why i wanted to delete them if possible. I have not come across a free version that can clean registry. I have avira paid version (in india it is 20 $ per year) and it is fine for me. good day.

Just used DuplicateFilesDeleter. It is a simple & safer to use, but very effective tool to locate duplicate files in one or more selected search paths. It scans the files/songs and compares them based on Byte for Byte Comparison, which ensures 100% accuracy. You can then choose to delete the selected duplicate or original files. The program is multi-threaded which enhances the performance immensely & performs scans very quickly.

it says it is a free site. we have to download software that will find duplicate files and then we have to give instruction for deleting duplicate files. Since I have to download I am worried about it.

Hi Ravisivan, I already looked at the link and it seems to be a good program. You need only to download it and if it works I think you can solve the problem with duplicated files. Actually I don't have problems with duplicate files, thus I didn't download the program. I have more problems with organize my files, but that is other stuff. I hope you can delete all your unnecessary duplicate files, so that you can have more order and space in your computer.
