How Do You Like E-Readers?

I don't know if this discussion has been started before, but I'm going ahead with it. The year before last my boyfriend asked me what I thought of E-Readers and I went off on them. I've always been a bookworm and kind of set in my ways. Unbeknownst to me he had bought me a Nook for my birthday that year and I ended up LOVING it! I'm obsessed with my Nook now and I can't get enough of all the free books I get on it and sometimes I buy a book or too, depending on how hooked I am on that author or that series. Now I have the "Good Reads" app on my phone so when I read a good book on my Nook I imput it into my "Good Reads" library and share it with everyone! What is your opinion on E-Readers? Was your opinion different before you had one than after? If you don't have one, is that on your list of things to get? If you have one of the basic models would you like to upgrade?

I don't have an ereader but i could use my mobile for reading, it has e-reading capabilities which i totally love as well. There are books that i love to read but are expensive to buy in print copies so i opt for buying it in ebook formats.

I used to use my phone for e-reading, but I read so fast that it was hard on me to have so little words to a page. I have been reading since I was 4, though, so it is a habit to read quickly and a hard one to break! Haha.

Wow, it's funny but I got my Nook (Color) almost exactly the same way! It was my son who bought it for me for Christmas. He asked me what I thought of them and I told him that I preferred to hold a book in my hands when reading it, something I can turn the pages of, put a bookmarker in it when I'm ready to put it down before I finish, something I can put on a shelf when I'm finished. But, I got my Nook and I love it, too! There are some books that aren't available in book form, only as e-books so I'm very happy with it. You can't find free hardback books very often but there are quite a lot of free e-books. Besides that, they're great for checking emails, perusing the internet, stuff like that, easier to read than going online via a cell phone and very lightweight. When I was in the hospital last year with my vertigo issue, I had my Nook with me and was able to get online and have fun. TV gets pretty boring when you're stuck in bed with nothing else to do and unable to even go to the bathroom by yourself so I was very glad I had that Nook. I am my youngest son's ride to and from work and I sometimes have to wait for him to get off work so I take my Nook with me and get some reading in while I'm waiting. I definitely changed my mind about e-Readers!

Now that I've put a bunch of free books on it, I haven't used it for anything but an e-Reader and I'm happy with that much. Everything else is icing on the cake. lol

Wow, my e-reader doesn't do all that. But it is a cool thing anyhow.

I don't have a e-reader, nook or anything of these because I rather have a book in my hand turning the pages with my fingers. I feel I look at enough screens such a the monitor and TV screen that I don't need to be looking at another screen to read. Like I said there is nothing better to me then having the book in your hand and feeling the pages as you turn them. Its a more personal read to me then an electronic read.

That is a valid feeling. I felt like that myself before I got my e-reader. And I still appreciate the value of a real book.

When I had my tablet, I use to read books on that, but I never liked E-readers I don't read books that much since, I started earning online, I don't have time for sitting down, reading a book that much any more.

I used to be like that about 5 years ago. I was earning about 50 dollars a month online but spending day in and day out on the computer to earn money. It took up so much time to do that and I didn't really have the time to enjoy other pursuits. So, I don't try as hard anymore. I don't earn as much, but I have a fuller life for me. Which is worth it to me. But, everyone has their own values on earning money online.

I can understand why people don't like the idea of e-readers, after all you can't beat the smell of a new book, however the practicality of an e-reader is exceptional. They're also great for students: when you're studying four books at one time it is nice to be able to carry them around on a very lightweight device rather than carrying around heavy books.

My thoughts exactly! I haven't ever used my Nook for school, but if I had to read more than one book at once the Nook would be the handiest way to go about it. I also find myself wish I'd had this back when my kids were little. It would have made middle of the night feedings so much more enjoyable and less likely to make me fall asleep in the middle of it! Haha.

I'm such a book worm! I love holding the book in my hand. One of my relatives has a Kindle and they gush about how much they love it and I've used it a few times. I would like to purchase one, because you can bring all your favorite books anywhere, which is nice.

I keep my Nook in my purse most of the time. Partly because I'm carrying a library with me everywhere, and partly because I don't have internet at home so I take it with me to log on to wifi elsewhere. Another thing with my Nook that I haven't used yet is that I can take it to the library and have them upload the book onto my Nook for the 7 weeks and then it automatically deletes. No overdue fines, no book damages. Sounds like a good deal to me!

I liked my e-reader ok, (it is a Kindle) until I got an iPad. Now I never bother with the kindle because the iPad is much handier. I like the back lighting, and the ease of turning pages. Text can be changed, and background can be manipulated. Its just a step ahead that's all!

I wouldn't have spent that kind of money on an iPad either, but my son gave it to me when we were visiting in California. I have no fault to find with it so far!

That's cool that your epad has those features. I personally won't get any apple products because they cost so much more than other brands and often have bugs because they come out too fast. But, there are many other epads out there that I would consider getting if I got the money for it.

I don't have a nook or a kinndle, so i have no opinion on them. I have found apps for my phone though that are books, so I can read those, even with the small screen, and now that I have an ipad mini, I can put book apps on it as well, and read them at night when I am having a hard time sleeping. I did that on Friday night, and it delp me to fall asleep. Most of the time though, if I want to read, I just go buy a book, i can hold in my hand and read it. Take care, and have a good day.

I used to keep the Kindle app on my phone so I could read Kindle books too. But, my phone is too small to enjoy the books. I also have it on my computer, but I don't read on my computer too much. I think if I had a tablet I'd just want to go with the Nook HD that way I have my e-reader and tablet in one.

I have never used an E-reader so far. I've just read pdf novels on my computer. I don't know in what exactly the E-reader experience differs from the laptop experience, but I prefer paper books. They are easier on my eye, I love turning the pages, owning the books etc. I see the pros of an E-reader, of course, as well, especially that you could carry around thousands of books in a tiny little flat machine that you could carry anywhere in your purse. But I think I still prefer my paper books. Oh, and I am a member of GoodReads, too! I'm just so obsessed with that site! I just love keeping track of my readings there, and grade books and write reviews! I also started manually adding the books which I've read, but which are not up on the site (due to the fact that I'm from a lesser known country, where this page is not as well-known... people tend to use the national version of that page... but I like GoodReads more).

One thing I like about the e-reader is that you can hold it in just one hand.

I have the Kindle apps on my iPad and I am so liking it. I also like to read, and while I still prefer the actual physical books when it comes to my favorite authors' books, I am okay with having some books on an e-reader. For one thing I like the convenience of having lots of books in one space-saving device. Plus I can easily look up the meaning of words that I am not familiar with. The only thing that sort of had the e-reader at a disadvantage over the actual book is that it requires charging and you cannot resell the old books that you've got if ever you don't want it anymore.

I usually stick with the free books and that's why I don't have to worry about reselling my books when I'm done with them. Recharging is a pain in the butt, but I don't have to do it but once a week which is probably the longest lasting charge I have on all of my techy stuff.

I never han an E-reader but I dream to have one. I also like reading books, but I am so absorbed emotionally when reading a book that it harms me. I am a bit emotianally ubalanced and that is the reason I can not read some literature, drama books and detectives.

I have a basic kindle which I like too. I still like the hardbook versions but don't mind a kindle version from time to time. Can get some really good deals and sometimes free kindle books on amazon.com. I which I had the lastest model though. B
