Kim is a young turk who inherited a country shaped by his father and grandfather before him.The world as yet don't know how he is as a leader. All this talk about war to me seems like a child in a temper tantrum because he was ignored. Well he did try basketball diplomacy, didn't he, although Dennis Rodham is hardly the right person to bring the message but the fact that he is an American should mean something on Kim's willingness to talk but instead of accomodating him and see what he wants to say,he gets skewered by the western media, knocking him on the state of affairs in a country he inherited to rule. Situations created by his father and grandfather. SO what do you expect when you push the guy into a suffocating room and gives him no outlet to vent.It is about " Saving Face", a concept that mindsets of western leaders don't want to give him and so , if he cannot get "face" hence respect from his people, more importantly his soldiers and generals.how the heck is he going to be effective as a ruler, surely the Swiss education may have opened his eyes to what is around him in the world and how far his country is lagging. Obama should just pick up the phone and just hear him out.at least give him the benefit of doubt 1st before anything. So much we don't know yet about him, remember the Berlin wall, nobody expected tht and it happenned, what is deep in this guy's head or heart? Kim may be a proponent of transformation of his country or not, we just don't know.

Actually, if you're right and Kim Joung Un reacted to a perceived slight with threats of nuclear war that tell us an awful lot about how he is as a leader.

it was a slighly tonque in cheek observation but i do think that it is time the world try communication with the regime, the young KIM is in a tenable situation apparently with his own military and yearns for respect from the global community that will win him a lot of points with his own people, what better way to shore support than all this war talk, his method to the perceived madness.

He is a joke and everyone in the world knows it. All of North Korea is just a joke to the world. Kim Joung Un is not interested in working with outside countries because if he does he will lose power. What he is doing right now he is trying to prove to the people inside North Korea he has the guts to play big tough leader to the people of North Korea. The thing is will he actually just keep it to nothing but words or is he going to actually start a war with the United States. North Korea wouldn't last a week going against the United States or the two allies it will have in the war China and Russia. I mean really North Korea would be in a position were it's only choice for survival would be unconditional surrender. So Kim Joung Un has no choice but to keep it to word and just words. I mean they only have weapons from the 1950s and they think the future war would be fought like the Korean War. I mean really it wouldn't happen like that we would drone them for hours and bomb them for a continuous 24hrs. It wouldn't stop.

without a doubt , i am in agreement with the fact that as a country, they will be annihilated if they choose the nuclear war path, but don't put it past them to just wage a little war, skirmish more likely, to win some concessions then back out.Afterall, they have China covering their back, who knows what vested interest CHina may have that the world dont know about should NK go to war with some asian countries.

I'm pretty sure it's that easy, but in the real world of politics and such, there's no "easy way" for everything. There are advisers who would tell Pres. Obama to take the call and there are those who would be against it. It's like you're in the spotlight and you don't really want to disappoint anyone ~ in the end, you don't do anything. As for Kim Jung Un, I think he needs to learn that taunting don't get good effects. He should open his eyes and be mature about his actions because nobody would look at him as a leader (apart from his blinded followers). Everyone would treat him as a joke. He's like a kid who is spoiled and was given everything and now he things everyone would give him attention. I say turn a deaf ear to his claims until he makes the mistake of making the first move. Then burn his regime to the ground so that those people would be free.

atually when you look at it from another prespective, it is working, aren't we all giving NK a lot of attention now precisely because of all the war talk. Kim may not be as daft as we think. The whole world is up in arms because of his posturing.NK is in the global news daily, tell me his war rhetoric is not working?

we would need a whole series of books devoted to the subject if we want to cover all aspect but sometimes ,it may just be really as simple as having face time and just hear them out,at leat the world will be a less threatened environment for the time being
