Yesterday I bought something from a local grocery store and the shopkeeper had no change . So, he told me to take the 6 INR at a later time. Today I went there and bought some groceries worth 59 INR and told him about the 6 INR. At first he gave me 50 and told he will give me another 3, due to the 6 INR. I tried to convince him that actually I have to give him 3. But he argued by saying that he will have to give me 3 and gave me the chocolate worth 3 INR, which I always buy. When I again tried to tell that he is wrong he didn't listened. So, I came home. But, now i am feeling bad for that. I might have made loss in his business. What should i do now ? Does something like this ever happened to anyone of you ?

Sometimes people get confused with numbers I guess. They see so many of them all day.

Today morning at another store i bought something of price 396 and gave him 500. He was returning me 404. I took just 104 and said what are you doing. He gets confused and asked what happened. I explained that I gave you 500 and bought something of 396 you are returning me 404. He said Oh sorry i just forgot and thought that its only 96. And i will go to that shop again and will explain him that yesterday he did a mistake and will try to return him if he listens Thanks

Listen I wouldn't sweat it. Its not like you didn't try to tell him three times that you owed him the money. If he didn't understand you or forgot what happened the previous day don't worry. You tried to do the right thing and he insisted he owed you the money. So you should have a clear conscience. This has never happened to me. They have tried to overpay me in my change but I tell them and then they fix it. I know some people wouldn't say anything and just keep the extra money but that isn't the right thing to do.

Hi, You are right. You should tell him again and again that you owed him money. Thank you for the response.

hi Deepak if he was that sure do not argue with him as he is positive he is right. I ha the same thing happen to me in a grocery store where th clerk gave me back too much twenty dollars too much and I tried to make her see she had make an error. She screamed at me" I never make errors" so I took the twenty and left as the line behind me was starting to call" lady take the damned money". So sh would have to pay for it and i just gave up as she humiliated me in front of a whole lot of people.

LOl that clerk sound crazy , I wonder if she ever though to herself why would you say she make a error ! what good would that be doing for you . If I was her I would rather have extra at the end of the days its her job on the line . This has happen to me but the person say their mind wasn't in the work and they were thankful I let them know .

@Hatley Yes, if someone is overconfident in calculation and says,"I never make mistake" and humiliates in front of other people, that's best to leave the place. I think she earns a lot that's why she doesn't care a lot. Thanks for sharing your experience @silverfox09 Yep, May be you just explained them and they understood that they made a mistake rather than saying "I never make mistakes". Thanks for posting

Nothing has happened to me like that. To make you feel better, try giving him back the money that you owe him and try to explain it well.
