How often do you change your curtains?

We've been in this house for more than a month already but until now I have not taken down and changed the curtains we put up when we first transferred. I am wondering though. How often should we change our curtains? Monthly? After three months? What is the acceptable length of time?

I`d say whenever they are dirty. My curtains get more dirty in Summer when we have barbecues at home. Children go in and out and sort of clean their dirty little hands on the curtains. After that, they must take a walk to the washing machine

Ah ok. I am looking at my curtains now and I do not see any visible signs of dirt yet but maybe it is the right time to wash them.

I am living in a tropical country and since the sun shine ever so brightly, there's lots of dust around. Because of this, things will get dirty easily and thus, we change curtains every week. Thanks to the washing machine though :). We do not wait for the curtain to change color because for hygienic purposes, we keep our curtains clean every time. If I may suggest, If you are living in a cold country, changing your curtains once a month would be nice to avoid whatever germs you could get from it. :)

Thanks, Anne for the input. I feel like taking them down right now after hearing your post.

washing machines are heaven-sent when washing towels, blankets, bed covers, sofa covers. they also dry up so fast now that it's summer. i love smelling the sun when taking down laundry.

we've been moved also and like you I put curtains so that dust and light wont get through in our house. I think changing time is when you see some dirt and dust in it, mine is kinda satin and I think it repel some lights and dusts which is good.

we live on the corner of a busy street so vehicles pass by all day and night. and then the fence bordering the property is lower than the windows so we're exposed to exhaust and dust all the time. we mostly have lace curtains so it's not dark inside and air passes through. i think we wash them every two weeks because doing it weekly might ruin the curtains. but if you live in a place that isn't dusty or smokey, then wash it when it's dirty or if someone in your home is sensitive to dust, like someone with asthma.

My Mom usually change our curtains every month or when she see the curtains is already not in it's original color. But now like you, Mom didn't change it since the last time she put it which is I can't already remember when.

i think there is no acceptable length of time. it would depend on whether the curtains are dirty. during winter, we keep the doors and windows closed almost all the time and the curtains do not get dusty easily so we wash them less frquently. during the summer, i was them once a month.

Ah ok. So I think it's time to give my curtains the washing they need.

I dread the think the last time I changed my curtains in my room, far longer than probably advisable. Although surprisingly they don't seem to be that dirty. I would like some new ones, but I don't really want to be here for much longer. Maybe if I had thought about it when I moved back home I could have changed them then. Ideally I would like net curtains, so I can have the windows open without the bugs coming in.
