texting for freebies?

I saw there was a freebie I could text in for. Now I've never done this but you know I'm wondering like e-mails do they start spamming you with text messages? It's a nice freebie but w/o knowing that I'll be harassed I don't want to chance it. An e-mail is one thing to send spam to but texts which make noise and annoy IDK

I enter lots of contests and there are some that ask for cell phone numbers, and some that ONLY require cell phone numbers. I never give my cell phone number (except to Ellen Degeneres ). I am sure I will get texts that won't be covered under my plan and I will have to pay them. It sure isn't worth it if I'm going to get charged for something I don't have much control over.

I don't know about texting, but any freebies I've requested through email haven't spammed me.
