Hi there Fellow Mylotters, Due to the heat that summer brings, a lot of people nowadays are buying electric fans. Since not all people can afford to fix an air conditioning unit at home so they opt to buy electric fans of different kinds, such as industrial fans or the fans wherein you can put some cold ice on the bucket attached to it. Indeed, electric fans nowadays are really indispensable to every household. As it can lessen the heat that we feel inside our home.

They are indeed indispensable. But there are times though that the heat is too great that even the air that the fan blows is also hot. What I do sometimes is steady the fan towards the wall and let the air bounce off of it. It somehow lessens the heat that the fan blows. But I think those fans which you could put ice to make the air cooler is a nice and cheaper way to beat the heat as compared to ACs.

good day beamer88, at times, i am also doing what you have shared. as i am directing the fan's air going to the wall so it will bounce back on the room corners.

I think it is good to have airconditions, but they are very costly and consume lots of electricity.

air-condition units are really the best way to beat the heat when we're indoors. If only they're not that expensive to use, I think I'll be leaving my AC turned on the whole day :)

yeah... I agree with you... :) In my case, we usually use 2 to 3 electric fans in my parents' house when I go there every weekend. So hot!!!!

it is really so hot. one electric fan sometimes cannot make it so it really needs two or even three.

hi there, how lucky you are. well, before i used to enjoy the coolness of the AC in the office where i used to work. but, something happens so i am not working there anymore. for now, i am just using the coolness that electric fan brings. and just like you, there are times, i am wishing that summer ends soon.

and I don't usually feel that heat at work because of the AC all day... I am used to cool temp because I'm working almost 14 hours with AC in the office... so I get really uneasy every time I go to my parents house and stay there all weekend... Whew! I really hope for the summer season to end soon... hihi^^

The heat here is also overwhelming. I feel like being baked in a hot oven. Since I just moved in to this new house I have not fixed air-cond yet and I have no choice but to fix air-conds to all the bedrooms as heat is too strong for the fan.

You are welcome to my house airasheila. It is not far away from where you are. Been to the Philippines several times and I know we are 'neighbors'. Not far

Truly, in EAch house an electric fan is so useful specially in this hot climate. Though, my daughter who is here for the summer vacation told me, that in Manila where she lives in a dorm, the air of the electric fan is also hot. That's why, she is so happy that in here in the province, it is cooler.

Oh yes, that is true. I will tell her to let the landlord have the ceiling fan cleaned as well as her own electric fan, when she goes back to the dorm in May.

i suggest they clean the fan more often to make the air from the electric fan no that hot. i've tried it and it worked.

• Philippines

Yes, not everyone can afford the airconditioning unit and granting that I can afford to buy one- I still consider the electric bill (duh) Thanks that we still have a small space in our backyard and we have a guava tree enough to give shade and fresh air. We spend most of our time at the backyard where I can do mylotting and enjoying fresh air.

yes electric fans are necessary items and not luxary. I don't know in which you are living. I never listen about fan wherein cold ice on the bucket attached. We are using fan at present but in coming month fans are not so much effective so we used coolers here.

Thanks for the discussion, when the weather is too hot fan are useless, if you can't afford air conditioner because of high cost plus the running cost go for a desert cooler, here the blown air comes out through a wet screen, it evaporates the water there, you must be knowing that 'evaporation causes cooling'.

Yeah, it's extremely hot in our place too. I remember I already opened the electric fan that I won during our Christmas party. I was keeping it for a long time because we have 3 electric fans at home. But because I'm afraid that keeping them on for a long time might cause for overheating which might bring accidents, I decided to use the new one for alternate. Have a great day!

I got that fan where in you will place some ice cubes inside , it is good but there are also other options in the market. There is this plastic electric fan that is place at the ceiling . It still gives air and good thing about this this , it is so cheap and very affordable , the problem of this , is we can't tell its life span ..It is true China made , we know very much that products coming from China is mostly disposable !

Hi there, Well, you said it right. Life span of that kind of product are unpredictable....

Using only fan nowadays also still not enough. Weather is really hot nowadays and it’s so hot because the air blowing from the fan is also hot. I’ve never know about the fan which you can put the ice inside to make the air blowed cooler. Is that a special fan or you can modified the fan yourself to make it. It would be nice and cheaper option to have now.

Yes, I agree, in fact, I just came from the hottest city in our country and that is in "Tuguegarao City". I cannot really handle its hotness as I was going to faint when I go out from the house. Electric fan cannot ease the hotness of the environment during this season.

Here also the heat is very high and the electric fans and air conditioning are used by lots of people. I use fans regularly because of heat. I think it is good thing that there is fan so that people can get some cold. I also try to take bath in between to get away from heat.

We have air conditioning and three of the rooms have fans. Unfortunately one those crazy, old people keeps turning the darned heat on and it made me sick so I prefer to use my fan when they are home.

I have central air so i don't need my fans unless my air conditioning stops working, wheich it did in 2011. My heart pump wasn't working properly, so I called the company that put installed my heat pump and furnace, and come to find out, it was the reverse relay in the heat pump that wasn't working. My house would heat up into the 80's, and I use fans to try to coll it off, but the hotter it goet, the hotter the fans would run. this went on for a few weeks until the part cam in, and once it did, i was glad that it was up and running again. It is really nice to have air conditioning, as the fans just wouldn't cool the house off or me for that matter either. Now, i do have to keep it maintained, but that is no problem as they just come and check it out and see if it is working like it should. If there are pars that need to be replaced, then I have to call them and make an appointment to get it fixed. hurray for air conditioning. as at my age, I can't take the heat. Take care, and have a good day.

The heat is just terrible than relying on the air conditioning unit is not enough. We would still be turning on the fan while the A/C is turned on otherwise, we would not be able to really have a good night sleep.

Hi airasheila! Yes it is. We have 3 electric fans at home. 1 operated by 110 volts, 1 industrial fan and 1 desk fan. I don't use the industrial fan since it uses more electricity. I just keep it as extra. I also have a humidifier with me. If the weather is extremely hot (Like you're in front of an oven), I use the desk fan with the humidifier and just alternate it to prevent over heat that might cause fire. How I wish I have an aircon. I just soak a thick towel on a bucket of water and hang it in front of our window to lessen the heat. Hehe. It's okay to use aircon too since we can save electricity when it's rainy season. Have a lovely day!
