Who Remembers Green Stamps?

I was going through my late mother-in-laws papers and came across a couple of interesting things. One was a photo of them on their wedding day and the other being the old green stamps. For those who do not remember green stamps they were stamps that came out in the 1960s that were given out in grocery stores when people bought groceries. People can save up their stamps until they found something that really wanted (such as new appliances, television sets, toys etc) and instead of paying for the item or putting it on a credit card one would turn in their stamps. Do you all think a program like this would work in today's economy?

There are companies out there that will reward you back when you have spent money with them, and this is good. One I am with it is equivalent to free product which does help. I do remember green stamps and having sheets of them that my mom used to fill and redeem. In today economy with everything going on, this might not be too bad of an idea for them to consider.

Yes, I vaguely remember the green stamps... and the catalogs filled with fun items. They were eliminated when I was a child, but I did have some fun toys as a result of them. Two of my Colorforms sets came from the Green Stamp store.

I had to stop and think but I do remember them. We used to get the Gold Bond Stamps too. I still have some of them. I also remember when I was in grade school, we could buy saving stamps. I have an empty book from them. They sold for 10 and 25 cents. What memories...

I sure do...I never used them but I certainly remember my Mom collecting them and pasteing them in the S&H stamp book...I think they use to have places when you could go and redeem them for merchandise...I can't see why they wouldn't work now except for the fact that people are so so busy that they just don't really have the time to do it...
