Bad Times For Farmers

Canada
August 6, 2015 3:11am CST
In my part of Canada we suffered a long winter. The last couple years the winters were not so bad but this year it held on. We had no snow for a while, Christmas day was mild with rain, no snow. In May we still had some snow then it was gone! June had come and my father had planted some of the garden not much but some. Well for whatever reason in June we ended up getting too much rain and below normal temperatures. We are in August now and getting really hot days. My father mentioned some plants having root damage and stunted growth. I feel bad for him. In order for my parents to start their large gardens it requires upfront expense. My father plants and harvest most of it himself. He is quite down about it the other day when I was visiting he mentioned that they won't break even this year because of the weather. How is the farming in your area? Are farmers struggling with issues?

The part of Canada I live in is in Saskat north of the capital. A couple of years ago we had terrible flooding here and the farmers are still trying to recover. The last two winters haven't been so bad, but the summer heat last year delayed crop growth and this years storms have decimated a lot of crops. South of us many fields are still under water from the floods of a couple of years ago. Climate change is wrecking havoc!

Yikes I didn't know it was that bad for weather in that part of Canada. Hopefully we can get some better weather in the future happening but seems unlikely with climate change.

@WorkAtHomeGal I read so much online about experts denying Climate Change.....I say, come to the Prairies for a week and tell me it doesn't exist!
