Do you think the Black Lives Matter motto is doing more harm than good? Is it separating our nation and dividing us in a time when we need to come together? I sometime wonder if the message is hurting us.

I like the message. I know a lot of people say "All Lives Matter" which is true, but people are trying to make a point as well. Black lives do matter. It doesn't matter than they are saying all lives matter. We already know that. That's my opinion anyways.

I feel like anything that separates or groups up ANYBODY by color is not a good way to unify anybody. Plus - I have to say, people do not always identify by color either, so using that as a way to group up or separate people is misrepresentative in the long run. Yes, ALL lives matter, and the focus should be on people being positive, constructive, responsible, safe, etc. We need to stop using anybody's COLOR as a way to define, judge, or expect certain behaviors - ie assume things.

I agree. I know plenty of people from backgrounds that include Mexico, Africa, Ireland, Britain, Spain, Morocco, Pakistan and I am sure more than I am not thinking about. Some are friends, some are family. All are upstanding good people. I also know people from the same backgrounds that are not that good. So color or national background is never a good way to judge anyone.

@loki1982 I harp on this a lot because I think what people do is assume that 'color' has anything to do with 'culture' and in any way likes, dislikes, preferences, etc. I have never found color alone to have any basis or bearing on those other things, but what culture you identify yourself with does. I suppose though that someone would need to be somewhat educated to realize that, and maybe people who assume things are not? LOL!

the point of the statement Black Lives Matter seems to be getting twisted in some sort of second hand information where the exact phrasing and meaning gets lost when told over and over to different people who tell the next person the statement wrong. Of course all lives matter but the movement grew out of the seemingly wild west nature of cops killing black people that appeared to be unjustified to most. On tv there was a new killing almost every few days and the public was ginned up by it. the rightwing media took the movement and tried to poison it by and large because of the conservative principle of trust the police at all cost and never question their authority especially when it comes to "those people"

Yes, I think it's damaging, largely because it's based on a false assumption.
