Taking a half day w/o pay.. ugh!

So my son found out today he needs a residency form to prove he lives in NY state for his school. We thought he had 30 days to complete this, but he found out today he needs it by Friday! So now I have to take a half day off work tomorrow so I can take him down to the city to get this form filled out so he can bring it to school by Friday. If he doesn't do this by Friday he loses his financial aid and has to drop out of the classes he just started this week. Ugh! I'm not happy about losing 4 hours of pay, especially when we're going to look at cars tonight and will probably end up with a car payment that was a bit higher than we anticipated... but that's another story which I will tell when it's all finalized.

That is sad that they would not pay you and give you sick time.

How odd! I don't recall having to prove residency! I hope you can get things straightened out by Friday. I hate to miss work or decline extra hours when it might put us in a better position for other things we want to do. GL on the car shopping!

@katsmeow1213 Oh I gurantee they have ! Yeah I've been out of school 18yrs and due to go back someday... maybe Yeah I know they charge a bundle for out of state. But shouldn't they of realized by his application to where he lived? or maybe by a copy of his ID?

@3SnuggleBunnies Yeah, but I suppose if we had a relative out of state he could have his ID switched to their address and use that to go to school. We need to prove he has lived here for at least 6 months.

Things might have changed since you were in school. If he is not a NY state resident he is charged double tuition.

That's too bad he couldn't find someone else to take him. I hate calling in, especially when I haven't been there that long.

I'm not calling in. I told them today that I would have to take the half day tomorrow and told them why. They understand and are very flexible about it. I don't like that I have to do it, but he doesn't drive yet and my husband cannot get out of work, so it has to be me.
