We just finished watching the first season of Fargo. The TV series is an adaptation of the movie, but with a new story line. Many of the occurrences in the movie are repeated in the series, but in different ways and circumstances. I really loved the movie, but having watched the series, and then the movie for a second time, I have to say that the TV series was superior. I think that giving the writers 10 episodes over which to develop the complex plot and the complex characters really did produce a superior bit of entertainment. If you've never seen it, Fargo is supposedly a true crime story set in the cold and snowy plains states. The TV show focuses on Minnesota. The crimes are violent and it would be a very grim thing to watch if they didn't brilliantly infuse the characters with such complex motives and personalities and weave some humor into the mix. You can see all of Season 1 right now on Hulu. Season 2 starts on FX in October. This is excellent television.

I remember the movie by Coen brothers, they won the Best Director Award in 1996 at Cannes Festival. I did not know there is a series.

Yes, this is still the Coen brothers, and you can see just how much fun they had with all this time to weave their twisted tale.

It's a crime story, but even though you know who did what, it's also a mystery and it's a love story and it's a story of vindication and a story of a small town and it's perfectly cast. The crimes are not nearly as important as the suspense and the complicated twists to the subplots. It's not like any other show.
