What if you are living alone?

Death visits anyone, at any time, at any age, anywhere. I lost my cousin a few years ago. She died alone in her house and was discovered only after 3 days. Young or old we never know when it will happen. What is it that you would do to ensure that someone will be there for you every single day specially if you are alone? Will someone visit you every day or call you?

Not everyone has someone who can check on them, or be there for them. It is sad, but sometimes neighbors don't notice, no one is expecting them. Sorry for the loss of your cousin, it's very sad to think of someone not being missed for several days. I had a similar situation with a friend.

Nowadays there can be years when someone is not missed. The present generation thinks it is not necessary as they have no time.

You're right, it's so important to keep up contacts outside the home, for this reason.

This is more a rule than an exception where people are not missed. There was this doctor well known at that who for whatever reason gave up practice and became a recluse. His only companion was his dog. It is almost a year later that he was discovered - not he but his skeleton and that of his dog inside the house.

@allknowing that is sadly becoming more of a common occurrence.

A scary inevitability for many people, living alone. I make it a habit to check up on my relatives who are living alone these days. I think even calling them on the phone helps them know there's someone out there to help them if they need it. The favor can be returned later. Still, the thought many people out there are living alone, and they could be in their house, helpless or worse, is really startling. All it takes is one instant to snuff life away. These people are found eventually, but how much time has passed? Startling to really think about, isn't it?
