The Free Gift

It's your Birthday! Friends and relatives have gathered together to recognize you on this special day. The table is piled high with gifts tagged with your name on them. Balloons and decorations are adorned. The cake comes forth numbered with candles representing the number of years since your birth. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE! In one accord everyone sings the traditional Happy Birthday Song, followed by the feasting on ice cream and cake, mixed with fellowship. And now it's time for the grand finale. The opening of your gifts. Your seated at the table, and in front of you the gifts are piled high. You pull out your check book ready to pay for each and every gift....What?... Wait a minute ... That sounds ridiculous. Then why when God offers us the free gift of forgiveness and salvation do we feel like we need to work for it through good works? Or that we are not worthy of it. When all we have to do is accept it.

Very good analogy. I think a lot of people feel insecure about themselves. I know I do sometimes. I didn't have a very good childhood and was made to feel like I didn't deserve things or love.

My childhood was very similar to yours and I struggled terribly because of it until Jesus Christ came into my life and filled me with His love and acceptance. It's been a wonderful walk with the Lord these past nearly 30 years. I love Him so much and am learning more about who He is as I continue to study His Word.

@Butchcass4 I feel the same way. I wasn't saved until I was 40 years old and it was one of the best and happiest days of my life.

That's a nice way of explaining it. We have to accept the gift, and then accept that God will take care of working out all the things in us that need to go and replace them all with Him and His love.
