Phone apps that allow people to chat online for free is getting very popular in Asia. What's app one such app has become popular with students, professionals, friends, religious groups and family groups as well.
Recently my niece started a family group as she and a few other nephews and nieces of mine live in a different countries. This group has been constantly active 24/7 for three months. Initially I did not get really involved in this..I expected the activity would come down after the initial flurry.. but it seems three months down the line it is still growing stronger by the day. Its been so much fun and some of us cousins who have never spoken to each other in years have been talking regularly.
I am glad that technology is being put to such good use and connecting people..
Do you use any similar apps to be in touch with family or religious groups?

@LadyDuck I am not a fan of facebook. Its got too many hassles. This has been very easy to handle.. we don't talk all the time.. but just listen in at times.. shut it out at times and have fun at others. I never thought I would enjoy it..but here I am having fun.

@sofssu That's nice , because i also feel the same way with some of my closes cousins too . I already have my closest cousins and friends at FB . When we have to say something private we just message each other. The price of technology ha ?

I use less apps. I try to use only those apps which increase productivity. I occasionally download games but they waste a lot of my time so instead use apps only. I use whatsapp to get in touch with family and friends. I am not a facebook guy anymore.

I use WhatsApp and sometimes Viber. I find them very convenient. I have a group with my extended family too, and it's nice to be able to keep in touch with them through WhatsApp because we live far away from one another.

@cahaya1983 I am more fond of what's app than viber.. for some reason. Its really amazing that the distance between continents can be shortened by a tap of the key on your phone. I enjoying getting to know my cousins better and getting closer to the larger family. I am g;lad you enjoy it too.
How often do you communicate with your extended family?

@crazyhorseladycx I am really happy to be able to talk with my nephews and nieces.. these were all restricted to family gatherings or Christmas. The smart phones are really not expensive these days and its there is nothing much to downloading and using an app.

@joygracia I am not a huge gaming person. I have played a game or two but that has found me totally unproductive. I have deleted all games from my phone.. That also means now I don't have my sons wanting my phone anymore.

@Freelanzer I like skype when I have to make overseas calls. Within the country I use whatsapp. It does save a lot of money when you have to speak to your children everyday.
