Kids night out was chaos!!

I helped head up a fundraiser tonight called Kids Night Out. It's where parents can drop off their kids for a night of fun. There's a charge to get in, the parents don't stay, we serve some food and try to let the kids have fun. Oh it was a mess! We didn't have enough parent volunteers or enough games coordinated. We thought it would be best of the kids just hung out and had open gym... nope, bad idea! We had a handful of trouble makers in the group that just made the whole thing a mess. Kids were throwing shoes at each other and then ended up in fights. We had a bloody nose and a bruised knee. A few broken jump ropes, a deflated beach ball, hoola hoops were being thrown to the sky. In the end we had to create a time out corner for a bunch of the naughtier kids who were causing so many problems. We did end up making a lot of money, and I know a bunch of the kids had fun. They got their faces painted for free, and their nails painted, and they loaded up on sugar. It was no fun for most of the adults who did end up volunteering to help. Our voices are hoarse from trying to yell over the noise.. Next year we definitely need to be more coordinated and plan out things for the kids to do. No more of this open gym stuff!

Well if the kids had fun, that's what matters the most.

Most of them did, yes. Some of the trouble makers were sent to time out and I'm sure they had no fun at all... but we had a parent who was handling that and calling those parents to come get those kids and putting it in such a way to make the parents extremely apologetic for the behavior of their children.

@katsmeow1213 That parent should start parenting classes for the others :-)

Sounds like "torture" to me. But you learn something, you will have a more structured plan for next year.

It sounded like it just fell apart once they got together
