How about some bacon?

I have known for many years that bacon and other cured meats contain nitrates and nitrites that can cause colon/rectal cancer. That info has been out there for at least thirty years. Nevertheless, we had bacon (two slices only) on weekends. That was the case until about two years ago, when we decided bacon prices were too high anyway and stopped buying it at all. Since then, I have had one great BLT. I don't miss it at all. I buy only uncured ham for sandwiches too, since uncured meats contain no nitrates. It is easy to make little adjustments to our diets in an effort to stay more healthy. Do you eat much bacon?

I eat much more bacon now than I once did. But I married a Brit and bacon is an essential part of life for him. Still, it's not a daily thing. Still, the statistics on eating cured or smoked meats show that the incidence of bowel cancer amongst those who don't eat them is about 1 person in 21. Amongst those who do eat them, it is 1 in 18. That's a really small increase in risk. It's not a significant cause of cancer at all.

The additional risks and the fat content are enough to keep me bacon and sausage free.

I haven't had bacon in a while. But I'm having turkey bacon tonight for my brunch meal with scrambled eggs and turkey breakfast sausages. I'm craving a BLT right now or grilled cheese with bacon--I might do it for Friday's lunch.

We sometimes split a lean grilled, marinated boneless chop at dinner time.

I love bacon but rarely eat it. Mostly it has to do with cost rather than for health. Guess the price has made me healthier in the long run LOL

Not for years. I have about one great BLT each month at a cute little diner I know. Otherwise, I eat zero cured meats and no red meat at all. I do eat poultry and fish a few times each week.

Love the taste but it bugs my stomach too much so I don't eat it much.

I don't eat meat and haven't for 25 years but as you say this bacon story really is old news.

I'm a huge fan of bacon, to the extent that I won't keep it in my house. I find the combination of grease and salt is irresistible. I'm currently reading a book about habits and how to form new ones, in the hopes that I can break some of my unhealthy habits, including this penchant for salt plus fat. Who knows what might happen if I'm successful?

I love bacon, but don't eat it everyday. Just every Saturdays if it's my day off. I have my regular cereals for breakfast.
