Toxic workplaces

Why are workplaces so toxic these days eh? Is it because Bosses are getting more and more horrible? Is it because incompetent colleagues are coming out the woodwork? Is it because the theatrics are just too much to handle? Or is it because our expectations of work has risen so much that we don't easily take all this nonsense lying down?

It can be all of the above, or none of the above. We might not be able to control the people who make the environment toxic, but we do have control over our behavior and attitude to avoid/deal with those people. I was in that situation and I chose to quit and move on. I'm happier than ever.

maybe you all should go work in a hospital then where the focus is on helping sick people and not on themselves or trheir work mates. If everyone was doing his or her own jog you would have less ti me for bad relations with co workers.

I absolutely agree with you. It is a conflation of external factors and internal coping mechanisms. So when we're faced with a toxic situation, we either remove ourselves from that situation, or we evolve internally such that the toxicity does not affect us

I have heard from friends of mine places where bosses will threw things at you. They will call you bad names and they get away with it.

Oh they will. In some countries, employers are given free reign over employees. Employees are unable to seek redress for issues such as workplace bullying and unfair dismissal. Singapore is one of those countries.

Workplaces aren't supposed to be toxic. It's the responsibility of the company to change the flow of toxic workplaces into a much more efficient and fun workplaces. If employees are not delivering their best performances, it might be because of the aura of the workplace which is not nice. I believe that a workplace with a mission to treat it's employees justly and nicely, can have a direct impact on the flow of the company services. Bosses should do their jobs properly, inspiring their employees to be much better. But employees should also love their works since that's the job they chose. So you see, everything needs to have balance. Bosses and employees should work with each other and complement each other. There will be stress on the way for both parties, but if they are enjoying their work, everything will fall into place and there will be prosperity in the workplace - in relationships, in work, and in fun. Kudos~ Love your work. :) He he

Absolutely, workplaces are where we spend the majority of our day! If workplaces were to be toxic, it would really affect us greatly. Yet, I find that not every company is responsible enough to make sure that workplaces are pleasant environments to work in.
