Trick or Treat?

United States

I decided to run out today and get some treats for Halloween. I got sidetracked and spent more of the day out running errands than I had anticipated. Now, I'm home, enjoying a hot cup of coffee with the hopes it will give me some much needed energy. I have to confess that I'm a bona fide procrastinator. I probably should have gone out days ago to buy my candy for the trick or treaters but I didn't want all that candy in the house because I knew I'd be tempted. Last year I bought it way ahead of time, ate half of it and had to replace it Not only did I eat more than I should have but it was costly to replace. The store had more than I thought they would so I guess there are bigger procrastinators out there than I am. Instead of candy I decided to get variety bags of chips. Each is individually wrapped and the selections are cheetos, potato chips, doritos &sun chips. I think this will work well for me. I won't eat any and it will be something different for the trick or treaters since 99% of people give out candy. What are you giving out for Halloween? do you have trick or treaters coming to your door?

WE are all older people here (retirees) no kids around. So nobody comes around.

I am giving out Reeses and some Tootsie Rolls. I am not sure how many visitors we will have so I get candy that we all like.

Halloween is only a recent arrival in New Zealand and I'm afraid I don't encourage it.

The only candy I buy is for us, in the 14 years we've lived in TN we've never had one kid come begging for candy - which I am glad of!

We live in such a rural area we never have any trick or treaters in the almost 20 years we have lived here.

We GET trick or treaters, just not really on our block for whatever reason, and so my wife and I really don't do much for Halloween. We tried it once here and had enough candy for 150 trick or treaters and I think we wound up with 10. WAY too much candy left over and we don't really like to eat it. It didn't go to waste though. Gave it to our nieces and nephews and my wife brought some to work.

That sounds like a great idea with the variety bag of chips.

I will be honest and say I've not bought candy (yet) this year Every year I buy for the kids...and they don't make it to my door. Our neighborhood has seen less and less traffic, as the years pass, and I find that I'm spending a lot of money to have candy in the house that I simply don't need. Last year, I waited until the day before Halloween, saying I wasn't going to give anything out, and then I caved and bought boxes of mini candy bars. I think I gave to maybe 6 kids. My daughter ended up sitting outside on the front porch hoping to encourage kids not to skip our street (we live near the corner and because there aren't many lights on, many kids walk on by without coming down). The hard part for me is that I totally remember taking my girls out on Halloween and how disappointing it is for them to be so excited and to find almost no houses with their lights on... I never wanted to be one of "those" houses. So, chances are, I'll be running out today or tomorrow morning, scrounging around what's left in the stores... nothing like a guilty conscience to move you forward!

Small update! As predicted, I caved I just bought two bags of mini chocolate bars at Walmart... a 50-piece one that is peanut-free and a 90-piece one that is "regular" stuff. Cost me about $20 - but, if it means not disappointing some children, it's worth it

We haven't had anyone at the door in about 10 years. We're all empty-nesters in the area that I live in-thankfully!

I will go out tomorrow and buy candy. That way it's not here in my face and it will be reduced tomorrow so I expect to save at least half the price. But I do buy the kind that I like in case there is any left over

I remember some people giving us bags of stuff like that even when we were kids. I can't remember if I liked it or not. I know back then I had a SUPER sweet tooth, which I have since lost. Nowadays savory is always better than sweet so I'd have welcome a bag of chips with my chocolate goodies.
