Before asking myLot, try a search engine!

One of the things that I have noticed about this site is that people like to ask questions - questions are good providing that they are backed up with a bit of a discussion about why you are asking the question. When an entire discussion just asks "where the most high rise buildings are built", surely your obvious method of research would be a search engine. This method of research will give you hard and fast facts, where as the mylot community (unless there is an odd freak amongst us) don't tend to store such height / density ratios in our heads. So why not google your questions and report your findings back to us, your discussion will offer more value and offer more options for interactions. The community here are not walking encyclopaedias and most won't copy and paste your question into google for you!

such questions are sometimes an easy short feature for some of the more cynical lazy contributors who just want everyone to come running with replies

This reminds me of the member asking about dinosaurs. He wanted us to do his homework.

Agreed and seems like a lazy way to get info. Like questions, but do think people have to at least try to get the answers themselves before asking such questions. It kind of makes you look ignorant. I have to be honest and say might be something I would do in a jokingly way though.

Some have no topic to start a post ,so they take this soft option.

Doing a little research to start up a discussion is part of the fun here. Not only that but it can widen your initial idea into several posts.

Yeah when people ask factual questions in posts and only that single sentence question, nothing else at all.....it is so annoying! Thank God self-suggestion option is not there now on Mylot, because I didn't know what to say when I came across such posts. My responses are almost like, "Are you kidding me? You have an entire encyclopedia on the internet and you chose to ask people on Mylot???"

Many people seem to have no idea how to start a discussion (or a conversation, for that matter). It is certainly a skill which has to be learned and we shouldn't automatically despise those who don't possess it. For many, the main way of initiating communication is to ask a question - usually about what happens to be uppermost in their mind at the moment! It is true that the answers to many of the questions asked can easily be found by searching but I often have to wonder whether the people who ask such questions are really being 'lazy' or whether it is their first stumbling attempt (often in an unfamiliar language) to make contact with real humans.

Actually I always use the search engine of MyLot whenever I want to read discussions about a certain topic only for the day. It helps to be more interactive because I have a lot of things to say about that topic.

But I am sure you don't write discussions that say "tell me about dinosaurs"

I think some questions are okay to ask.

These are lazy posts by people who don't make any effort to start a proper discussion. It's a waste of time replying to most of them.

I think people ask questions to attract responses; often there is very little input in posts

True - but looking at discussions here on a whole, the short questions attract the least interactions.
