I'm wondering if I should be doing...

more maintenance on my computer. I scan it weekly with Microsoft Defender and Malware. I clear the browser, and check for updates. And I wash down the screen and key board too. I am wondering if there is a cheap way of clean the inside of my computer. I would get it done professionally but the only price I am getting is $99 and that seems steep to me. Does anyone know if I should be able to get it for at a cheaper rate? Thank you for responding.

If you don't mind downloading some software to clean out directories and Internet cache then you can do a little more. Bit defender helps with viruses and stuff like this. Each time windows starts it saves a restore point on your computer. You computer needs some of your older restore points deleted out to make room. If you start to see your hard drive filling up and you don't save stuff on the drive this is a good indication that you have a lot of restore points on your computer. @Rosekitty mentioned a newbie posting how to do this. It was me you might want to check this out to help you.

@Rosekitty You are welcome. I hope this will help and maybe she will contact me and I can give her a few good tips on what software to download that can help clean up her directories so her computer runs faster.

I never use Windows Defender because I consider it to be rather inadequate as an antivirus system. I usually use Avast free antivirus instead. As for the physical cleaning of a computer, it depends on whether it is a laptop or desktop system.

@celticeagle Cleaning the internal parts of a laptop is certainly nowhere as easy as it would be with a desktop computer. Fortunately it is not as necessary either due to the system being less open. The fans will become dirty in time, but generally the laptop should not suffer greatly from being left alone. The one thing that too many people forget is the CD or DVD drive. This should be cleaned with the usual CD cleaning disks to avoid grime building up the laser, which in turn affects the efficiency.

I used to use the same one I believe until a Dell tech told me about Microsoft Defender. I also use the Malware one too. My computer is a laptop.

@Asylum ...Okay. That makes sense. I will add that cleaning(CD drive) to my usual cleaning of it then. Thank you.

OKay I will contact you. But don't you have to have certain small tools to open your computer. I don't know that I want to do that.

@celticeagle My work one is done automatically, my home one has been set up by a boffin to do it itself, and my chromebook can't download anything and so doesn't need to be messed with.

I used to know how to do a defrag but do not with the new Windows 10. I went to do it once, I think, when I was still in Windows 8 and I believe it said it had been done or didn't need it or something.
