The Day The Milk Flowed!

The Overturned Tanker.
South Africa

Just wanted to tell you about what happened two years ago in July on the road about a hundred metres from our gate. We live on a small holding about 4 km inland from the seaside resort town of St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape. One quiet morning while I was in my office I suddenly heard this strange noise! It sounded like the combination of a loud roaring, squealing, scraping and grinding sound! It lasted for a few seconds then all was quiet again. I couldn't see anything from the window because of the trees and high fence. Curiosity got the better of me so I walked down to the gate and got the shock of my life! The Parmalat milk truck had taken the bend too fast and his trailer tanker had overturned in the middle of the road. It had burst open and there was milk everywhere! It was spilling over the road into the ditch. Fortunately nobody got hurt so I ran back for my camera. The road was totally blocked so the traffic built up on either side of the wreck. It wasn't long before the breakdown truck arrived and slowly by surely managed to put it back on its wheels again. I'm not sure how many litres of milk were lost but the tanker must have been full because the truck was returning to its base after doing the rounds at the dairy farms. I suppose there was a lot of crying done by the farmers over the spilt milk! Hope you enjoy this three and half minute video! http://youtu.be/wZex_CHprAU

Yes, I should think that they were insured though!

So sad to see so much good food go to waste. Did all the cats in the neighborhood show up to help in the clean up?

That sure is a lot of milk wasted.....all the hassle those animals had to undergo to produce milk, went to complete waste.
