How Would You Feel If Someone Wants to Clean Your Already Clean House?

I hope there aren't any germs on this seat

My sister has someone who comes to her already clean house and wants to clean it more. She will not use the toilet until she bleaches it. She will not take a shower until it is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. She will not drink from bottled water until the cap is cleaned off. The list goes on. My sister has a clean house and this makes her feel like the visitor is looking at her as nasty. I'm assuming the visitor has OCD or some issue that causes her to be germophobic. On one hand, I would feel offended. On the other hand, I might just sit back and laugh and let the visitor keep at it until I had nothing left to do. How would you feel in this situation?

She seems obsessive, maybe she's a germaphobe.

Definitely obsessive. I can't imagine going into someone else's home and being like this. But, there is an underlying reason for it.

I would try very hard to understand this persons need to clean and you are probably right about the germophobic tendencies.

It is usually best to try to understand the underlying reasons people do certain things. I just wouldn't want to be consumed by bleach fumes by obsessive cleaning lol

If anybody's willing to clean my house, I'm happy.

@Katlynn My friends stayed in my flat last summer whilst I was away. They rearranged all my kitchen cupboards. I could be offended but I'm not at all.

And that is definitely one way to look at it - after you get over the offensive part!

I would feel offended too but surely the lady can't help herself. I'd be trying really hard just to put up with it. It would be difficult though.

@Katlynn There must be some condition. Surely she wouldn't do this otherwise. I can't think of too many people who would put up with it. Only really good friends who understood or knew the reason behind it.

@JudyEv I agree Judy. I found out she might be dropping by my house with my sister on Thanksgiving. Maybe I should have the bleach at the door as she comes in. Give her a head start lol

I would probably do the same, put up with it knowing she can't help herself and there is an underlying reason. I might be tempted to say something such as "do you think my house is dirty or what is the deal" lol

I think I would feel offended as well, but it seems like the visitor just couldn't help herself, so I guess I'd just try to understand her situation. I used to have a housemate that always requires us to clean the house, though we think the house is already quite clean. She understood she was quite demanding, but she just couldn't help it. So, we just tried to clean up to her standard. I am just wondering how if she has children, as young children certainly will make messes around.

I would be annoyed as well. If it was my sister - I would tell her that it was annoying for her to suggest that and the answer is no. Of course me and my sister are pretty close so I feel like she wouldnt be mad. So I guess it depends. Otherwise just try to ignore her. Ironically my sister is qlso very OCD about cleanliness and orgqnization, although she has never suggested to clean my place. Lol.

I would realize they're suffering from some kind of problem that had nothing to do with me and I'd enjoy the free house cleaning. With limits of course. My bedrooms are off limits they can clean kitchen bathroom and living room.

@Katlynn Its the happy medium I don't see the harm as long as you have limits they respect.

I'd show them where I keep the cleaning products and tell her to have a great time. I have no patience with that kind of rudeness, can you tell?

Yes, I can and many would agree with you. I'm sure I would feel offended at first because someone coming to your clean house and wants to clean sends a message that your home isn't good enough. But, I'd probably take a step back and realize that the person has a problem and is probably like that with everyone. Then, I'd sit back and watch. Well, maybe lol

I'm not sure, now if she wants to come clean my house so I don't have to, that I'm ok with.

Hey, if a compulsion to clean is her only obsession send her my way. There are days when I could use a friend like that, yesterday was a good example.

I'm beginning to think that way as well. I was somewhat disappointed that she and my sister weren't able to show up on Thanksgiving. A little early spring cleaning wouldn't be so bad.

It definitely sounds like your sister's friend has either OCD or an issue with germs. I doubt it has anything to do with her house not being clean enough...

I agree. My sister's house isn't perfect. Not many people's are. But, her house is always clean and nicely decorated.

If that person comes to my house then I would welcome her if she wants to clean more but she should not ask for a fee lol! and she should be careful not to break anything in my house.

No, no no! I had to put up with this occasionally from my mother-in-law. She is an amazing cleaner and tidier, but it's my house and my germs, and I like things just the way they are.
