People are fickle

United States
November 27, 2015 8:34am CST
It isn't just here, it is the same all over. People jump on whichever bandwagon is hot at the moment. Example: Someone starts a discussion called, "The moon is green." Many comments follow and everyone agrees that the moon is green. They praise the person for a wonderful discussion. Someone else starts a discussion called, "The moon is gold." Many comments follow, by the same people who commented on the green moon, now agreeing that the moon is gold. They praise the person for the wonderful discussion. How can the same people agree that the moon is green and gold? Have you noticed this trend? Is it a case of follow the leader or are people really fickle?

Yes, absolutely. I'm glad I'm my own person - it might get me in trouble once in a while, but so be it.

I used to laugh at this happening with the kids when they were making friends at school. Gosh, now I'll worry about whether I do the same.

Kids, that right, they do it all the time to be with the in-crowd.

I think rather than being 'fickle' these people just want to please whoever is at the helm at that minute. Or whoever is popular. Like back in school. It is comical really.

I know what you mean and I think fickle fits them. Or maybe I have pickle on the brain.

I'd agree with this. If it isn't an important issue who really wants to rock the boat?

I think some people don't really read much in posts and just make comments that agree with the other commenters. I have noticed it myself.

I never thought of that, very true. I can tell people don't really read because sometimes the comments don't have anything to do with the discussion.

I think some of it is that people don't want to be rude so they agree with the person they're interacting with. Maybe if it was important to the reader they would put forward their own opinion but if the subject doesn't warrant getting into an argument they just go along with the opinion of the writer.

As far as mylot goes I think people do that just to increase their responses and therefore their earnings. In the real world I think people do it because they are unable or more likely unwilling to think for themselves. They agree with every little idea that comes along, no matter how contradictory one idea may be with another, because each idea is presented in a way that is believable to them.

@AbbyGreenhill Of course. Why think for yourself when someone else can think for you? That's what the politicians and news media have encouraged the people of America to do, anyway.

They just want to make some noise, and get some money for creating nonsense. I think I will not waste time on such nonsense. However, I will not stop people from doing that. After all, the world is a fun place because of so many different ideas, both sillies and serious.

It's conflict avoidance and a desire to say what people want to hear. I can't say it happens around me at work - we're all looking for a good fight most of the time.
