Opt Outside on Black Friday

Are any of you here in the US forgoing Black Friday shopping to instead enjoy the day outside? I loved the REI Outdoors commercials where the CEO stated that all his stores would be closed on Black Friday so that his employees can enjoy the great outdoors with their families. The tagline in the commercial was #OptOutside, and it seems to have caught on like wildfire, at least with many people. I am taking their advice and opting instead to spend the days outdoors. Of course, I do live in Florida, so it is a gorgeous day out. Some of my northern friends may not be so lucky with their weather. But, despite your weather conditions, are any of you opting to spend this Friday enjoying the great outdoors?

@moffittjc I love going outdoors. Not that I do it often but when I am out, I like it. I like it more when I am not in a crowded place. Like some parks or beaches can have too many people for my liking. Just a simple walk through the bushes or a hiking trail makes me feel really emotionally good.

@VivaLaDani13 Except in the summer when the mosquitos attack me in swarms! Do you have lots of mosquitos in Australia?

I did not do any black friday shopping as I spent the day with my family instead. I was not going to attempt going to stores and get trampled on etc. I just did all my shopping online, it's so much easier that way.

Well, it is the time of the year when the cold sets in, so I guess getting outdoors just isn't an option for everyone! Hope you stay warm!

@moffittjc Yes, not everyone likes the cold. I lucked out in VA with temps in the 60s -- good hiking weather, But I do a lot of winter and cold weather hiking anyway, so it didn't matter, I was definitely opting outside today!

@LaDeBoheme That sounds like perfect hiking weather! Oh, how I would love to be in Virginia right now! My best friend lives in Abingdon, I might try to get up there to see him soon!

oddly enough after a few really cold days today is in the 70s so outside is actually a great idea.

Awesome! Hope you are able to get outside and take advantage of it! I just got back from visiting a nature park with my son. We had a great time! So much better than fighting crowds at the mall!

@moffittjc that is true and you spend so much money when you go to a mall over other places. Our children walk into a store and they get the instant wants. I want this and that

@lokisdad You sound like my son! He wants everything he lays eyes on! His whining and begging pretty much goes like this: "I want, I need, I have to have!"

My brother and family live in WA. My nephew is an adventure guide for REI and they were all definitely opting outside -- headed to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic NP.

@softbabe44 My brother just retired, so he and my sister-in-law moved out there from SC. Neither one were from there, but they had lived there previously and obviously loved it since they have retired there. Their son (my nephew) and his family have been there for awhile (He was transferred there with REI). I am on the other side of the country, so it isn't easy for me to get there often, but it is a beautiful state for sure!

Please can you hurry up and tell the UK public that you all hate Black Friday?! Then we might stop copying you!

It is funny how everyone here in America complains how much they hate Black Friday, yet everyone still goes out and shops anyway! It wold be funny if it weren't so sad!

This would be a great day to go to the beach! Too bad I live inland, or else I would hop in the car and head to St. Augustine for the day! In fact, now that I think of it, I should have gotten up early and did that this morning! lol
