I've stopped watching the news

United States

This is not anything new for me. I don't watch the news except to see the weather or if someone I know is going to be on it. I definitely avoid the political news stations. I know there has been another tragedy here in America. I don't know completely what it's about. I purposely avoid watching the news because of all of the tragedies. I know that the news doesn't tell us everything, only what they want us to know. I would rather be naive to the goings on, especially the ones I have no control over. My heart goes out to those suffering because of the recent events. You'll forgive me if I don't want to know too much about it. Americans have a right to defend themselves, but I sorely wish that something could be done about gun control. The people with access to these weapons? I doubt very seriously that they are getting them the legit way. Do you watch the news or has recent events turned you off from it?

I don't know about the British Affiliate stations but I know here in the States you can hardly believe what half of the anchors spill out anyhow.

We live in a small town so I do watch the local news sometimes. I know how you feel and there are times when I just don't want to hear anymore bad news.

On the contrary, I pay attention to the news lately. Especially after the terrorists attack in Paris. I am a person who like traveling. The world is so large and there are so many places I haven't been to yet. But the world seems to become much more dangerous everywhere, it is really hard to say where to travel to at present. It seems that the people haven't learned from World War II yet. I thought I was born in a peaceful time, but who knows what it goes to in the future? Sad to it.

It is definitely not a peaceful time now. I can understand trying to keep up to date so that you know where to safely travel... I don't do much travelling so I don't need to keep up with world events for that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Even if you are not interested in traveling, but learning the news is still useful. When i learned that my country would fight to ISIS, I felt worried. Because I know what it means to the people.

I haven't watched or read the news in ages. It really ticks me off when someone rubs a news story in my face too... like my ex-coworker would always talk about things going on in the news because when it was slow instead of catching up on work she'd sit on her phone and update us all on whatever she was reading! Today, thankfully because she's gone now, I didn't even know about the California thing until I got home, and like you, I don't know much about it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I had told this girl before that I didn't want to know about it, but that didn't stop her, she just kept on reading. Some people these days are just very inconsiderate of others.

Ooh I hate when people try to push the news on you. I have a grandmother who is very greedy about all of the stuff going on. She clings to the drama of it and loves to talk about it. It terrifies me (the news) and so I'd rather not hear about it. If I have to, I'd rather it be as little as possible.

I don't really watch the news. I get a lot of info from Facebook and even then I hate reading a lot of it. So much hate and sadness in this world. I truly sometimes wish I was a kid again where I was naive to it all. I truly do fear for my son's safety in these times.

I get a lot of the info from facebook as well. It's watered down and I can choose NOT to read about it if I so wish. It's getting scarier to live anywhere.

Unfortunately, those with criminal minds/intent can get anything they want, so violence will always exist.

I read newspapers every day. I have investment in the stock market, and I need to read the newspapers to know about factors that can affect my job and investments. I think a good news is that oil will stay low for a long time, since OPEC has removed limit on oil digging, and they will keep on supplying oil, and make oil stay at very low price. This is the kind of news I am interested in.

"I know that the news doesn't tell us everything, only what they want us to know." I agree with you. If all of us are consicious about this and not accept everything they report as truth, then the better our lives would be. Or just switch off the TV and not watch the news like you do, which is an easier choice I think.

I always watch the news at 6:30 PM if I'm at home. The tragedies are certainly very disturbing and it confirms in my mind where we are in the stream of time. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says it all. I don't know if you are a Bible reader or not, but that verse is worth reading. Also, I will recommend a web site that has answers to WHY things like these recent tragedies are happening and what the future holds. Revelation 21:3, 4 You can watch FREE videos and read articles about what all this means. You can also request FREE literature.

The news will manage without me. I only listen to the news once in a while.

Exactly, the news goes on but it doesn't mean we have to hear about it.

I likewise don't watch the news for the same reasons. Just too depressing and too much bad karma.

Combined with the fact that we can't be sure that what they tell us is the complete truth. Sad world we live in now.

The mainstream media is not a credit source for any truthful information. Period. Ever.
