A Bale of Hay for Herc

I'm sure many of my old friends from Bubblews will remember me posting about Hercules, our pet sheep. We've had other pet sheep before but at the moment Herc is on his own. The feed in his paddock is getting down a bit and he's been standing at the gate bellowing at us. So yesterday we bought him a big round bale of hay. This will last him probably 12 months.
He starts eating in the middle and gradually eats his way in. The photo shows him busy demolishing last year's bale. I'll add a comment and post a photo of Oscar being very clever by standing on the bale in a previous year. Herc will be getting shorn soon. I hope to get a video clip of him leaping into the trailer all on his own. Are you dotty over your pets?

How lovely to have a mini-donkey! I do envy you. I'm sure Peter and Herc would get on well.

@sallypup I guess this would be the problem in your winters. Luckily that isn't an issue where we live. Herc has a shed to shelter in but plenty of sheep around here live entirely in the open. Herc runs for his when he is freshly shorn and it starts to rain.

Hercules is very spoilt. He gets vegetable and bread scraps as well as his hay.

I hope you're able to see him now - and Oscar and Buster! We haven't named any of our sheep. They all came to us with names.

I don't remember you from Bubbs so your sheep is 'new' to me!

It is hard to tell where the hay bale ends and Herc starts! Just kidding, but he does look like that hay bale.

He had a lovely little hole eaten out. I had to put some bread in the hole so he'd put his head in so I could get a photo.

@JudyEv at one time I had 3 cats and each one had a different personality. Most days I miss having a pet (or pets)

@Marilynda1225 Herc is a good pet for us as he is virtually trouble-free and we can leave him for a day or two without any worries. If we're away for longer, it is usually just a matter of someone checking on his water trough.

He deserves to have his story told. He is a dear old thing but not always terribly interesting :)

We've barely seen him since we put the bale in his paddock so I think he's pretty happy. :)
