The rural area near my home is populated by an assortment of wild animals and birds. At night, we often listen to the yapping and howling of the coyotes. They can be heard, early and late, to the north, south, east and west. We are surrounded by squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, raccoons, opossums and have seen deer tracks in the yard. A few weeks ago, returning home from a hospital run, I had a close encounter with an opossum. It did not end well for the opossum. This morning as I headed to the bank a wild turkey flew across the road a little ways in front of me. We watched fly into the woods, just as a few more took flight, one of them into my windshield. I ducked! Fortunately the van did. Or sustain any noticeable damage, but somehow I don't the turkey fared to well. The winter is just beginning. Now I wonder what other wildlife I will encounter in the coming months.

I don't recall ever seeing a wild turkey in real life. Just on TV.

We have big wild boars here and I am not sure who would sustain damage if you hit one of them.

We have a lot of wildlife here too. Not too many flying at my windshield though. Deer can be unpredictable, I had one leap in front of my truck years ago. It was do badly injured we had to finish it off.
