Yesterday we visited OSV (Old Sturbridge Village) . Our dinner reservations were for 4:15 p.m. so we got there early enough to poke around the store and walk up to the village green and take a horse drawn carriage ride. Dinner was delicious and afterwards we walked around the village visiting the houses and taking part in all the activities that were offered. We drank hot mulled cider, made a delicious smelling sachet and met Father Christmas. It got quite cold so it felt very seasonal and we enjoyed the carols being sung and the learning to dance the Sir Roger de Coverley in the Parsonage Barn.

I'm glad that you had a lovely day. Is it an Olde Worlde Village? I remember doing that dance but we spelt it 'Sir Roger de Coverley'.

oops you are right, I just heard them say it so I got it wrong. I have corrected it. IN the village the year is 1839 I believe.

@fishtiger58 I write a local blog and it made me really search and I found so many things I had never heard of before. I had been to OSv many times in the past but never at Xmas time.

The Sir Roger de Coverley is an English dance, but it dates back even before my time.

@BelleStarr I've never had hot mulled cider. Is it similar to apple cider but hot?

@Marilynda1225 It is apple cider served warm with spices (cinnamon, closes, nutmeg and allspice) in it, it is sweet and so tasty. Plus it was so cold so we warmed up.

I thought that you are going to light up your house with candles. I think that will heat up the house a bit. i personally do not like candle-light dinner. I prefer to eat in full light, so that I can see if the vegetables or the fish color is right.

It was in the low 40s so pretty chilly with a breeze. It was the perfect weather for a Christmas activity.

@BelleStarr It took me a while this year to get in the spirit. But, once I went to see my grandbabies this past weekend, I was back in the spirit again.

I tried hot mulled cider once. I found it so vile that I hid my glass at the back of the stall where no one could see me.

I just made a real effort this year to do some of the amazing seasonal things that are offered nearby. It helps to make the season seem like to lasts longers.

Awww, sounds like you had a wonderful and romantic time! I don't know but something about candle-lit dinner and hot cider spells love for me. I was hoping that me and the boyfriend will be able to pull something like that during the holidays. He has the time off until next year after the new year's, but I have to work on some days in between the holidays. It will be tricky to juggle the parties we already said yes to and at the same time have some quality time. But with that, I am still excited with the holidays.
