Cats and Christmas, is often a recipe for disaster, or so it was with my two, every year. So do Cats really hate Xmas, or is it their 'Big Fundango time'... well with a few exceptions. Can we just point out to you humans that, while you may like to dress up in silly outfits like 'Xmas Catsuits and Santa Gear'... we of the more sensible feline community, hate the idea, and eminently prefer, to get down to the real ripping fun. As you may just notice in the following video:..... ...And please no more Cracker jokes,like....Mum, Can I have a cat for Christmas? No you can have turkey like everyone else! Happy Christmas...only days away*

I looked at the YouTube video and I was lost for half an hour watching cats videos. They are really funny, most of them seem not to appreciate the decorations.

@bookbar I tried to put tinsels around the neck of the cat of my neighbor, he hissed and run away, not happy at all.

@LadyDuck The bigger and more sparkly they are, the more likely the target and the more mess when the tree comes crashing down, which has happened to me more than once

I wonder if those cats that were climbing the trees were stalking prey after hearing the rumours of "A Partridge in a Purr tree"?

Funny video - it's surprising that those people videod the destruction their cats were wreaking without trying to stop it!

@WorDazza I'd call that sensible, a small tree is not nearly so attractive to cats...and a lot easier to 'resurrect' if they do investigate

@bookbar And by 'investigate' I suspect you mean 'destroy'

And the dangerous part @bookbar is that the cats can get cut on the broken bulbs and possibly electrocuted on the wiring.

@nanette64 We had an adventurous hamster that tried to nibble a fairy light and was thrown across the room.... funny he never went near the tree again... but still poked his nose into plenty of other things... even got stuck on the staircase of my daughter's doll's house and became a 'pushme, pullyou' for around 15 mins, before we could extricate him...

@nanette64 I won't even mention the Hoover incident, when we had to reverse the suck to blow, nor when he got hold up behind the freezer grid.... do Hamsters normally have 9 lives??

@bookbar Oh heavens to Betsy. I'm surprised he survived but then again, it would probably be the same on if we were to touch a 110 vs a 220 wire. I can just picture the dollhouse incident.

As we all know cat secretly rule the world. So if they actually hated Xmas i m pretty sure Xmas would be only a distant memory by now :)

I don't think they like wearing clothes, but they love the paper and bows.

never been much of a cat person. have a dog and he doesn't seem to to care one way or the other about Christmas. My daughters have cats and they knock some of the bulbs off the tree now and then.

@boiboing One of mine, would strip the tree of Lametta, if I was stupid enough to put it on the tree, a sparkling substitute for Grass, judging by the after-effects

Good question. My cats don't hate Christmas. They get treats for their gifts and plenty of TLC from moi. No complaints, unless one meows the most of the holiday weekend.

My cats don't care about Christmas. They sniff the tree, then wander away in disdain. Qyzen loves foil though; I found some scrunched up foil chocolate wrappers at the end of the bed this evening. Qyzy had obviously been playing, taken them upstairs and left a tidy pile! He'll be miffed when he comes in and finds them tidied up!

My fiance got a new cat. I hope she likes Christmas and isn't jealous of me. I haven't meet her yet, but I will in a few days.

That's a great video. Some cats are really intent on creating mayhem. Have a great Christmas. Three more sleeps and we're off to Melbourne to see our son.

How do cats even know about Christmas. They weren't one of the nativity animals. They weren't around. They are curious and get into things which could cause problems for yule tide celebrators. And, cats expect their pets to entertain them and for it to be all about them. With Christmas tipping that scale they might like other times of the year better.
