Judy @jstory07 , Judy wrote a few examples of what is going on in the month of January in one of her last discussions here. Well, i found one interesting date: January the third (3) is officially the day to toss your old fruitcake day. I will certainly not throw mine away as i love that stuff contrary to a lot of people who can't stand eating this kind of cake.
January is national thank you month. So be sure and say thank you to everyone for everything. New Year's day is the most celebrated holiday around the...

The only place that I ever toss fruitcake is into my mouth and I have no intention of behaving any differently on 3rd January.

You two should have a party. If you started a "fruitcake donation program," you might never have to buy food again.

No reason to toss good fruit cake - it lasts well if wrapped properly. My husband loves it.

Will fruitcake and Twinkies outlast humankind?

@TheHorse Twinkies may very well outlast humankind but not my beloved fruitcake.

I cannot imagine throwing out fruitcake, as in my opinion, it is such a rich, annual treat. And for anyone who has ever looked at a recipe knows the time and effort it takes to make a fruit cake correctly, not to mention the costs of the fruits and nuts, the cheesecloth and the brandy needed to soak the cake in for those weeks leading up to Christmas.

@marlina Can you eat the store bought kind? I wonder if horses would eat store bought fruitcake.

@marlina that's an interesting bit of information. One of the best things about fruitcake is how long it lasts. Maybe they mean to throw out the fruitcake from the year before.

My mother made fruitcake that was fresh and it was very good. The ones that you buy in the store you can use as a dooor stop becuse they are so hard.
