War because of religion

As we all know, Middle East countries are having war now just because of the religion. There are many religion in the world, and it depends on the people on what religion they are going to believe to. I'm a Catholic, but sometimes, I feel like an atheist. Why? In the Old Testament, God punished the people who don't believe in him. Then on New Testament, God gave his son to save the people. It is a little ironic, isn't it? Now, Muslims are fighting their fellow Muslims, Christians fighting Christians. Religion versus religion. If our religion tells us to love one another, why are we fighting each other just because of religion?

They are fighting not because of religion, buut for their own private benifit. They use religions as a camouflage. If you look deep into them you will feel something cautious like where do they get the funds for this kind of stuff they are doing. Terrorism has nothing to do with religions.

I couldn't agree more. If they wanted people to convert to their religion they would be out there explaining the benefits of following their religion: what it offers the individual and how it's pleasing to God. You don't hear any of that from them, however, because they're not fighting for religion, they're fighting for domination...and just hiding behind "religion" as a smokescreen.

Of course they get funding from several countries and some affluent people support them, even some in the western countries are sellers. It's a shame that for some financial gain, they are selling away freedom of millions of people.

@FourWalls that's the point. Why would they kill people who don't understand and follow their religion. It's just really absurd.

Religion is not the cause behind the fight. Terrorism is. Young people are brainwashed to learn that whatever they are doing is to purge the world of sinners, but the people in charge have purely selfish reasons. They wanted a base of operations in the middle east because that is where they will get least resistance, hence they got Syria. They wanted to have a big HQ to carry out terrorist attacks, and to give the fighters purpose, they have chosen religion. I doubt the leaders even know what is written in the Koran as the core of Islam. They are managing to shame Muslims around the world in a perfect manner.

@kdavid power through fear, and toppling other nations. As simple as that. The reason why there are wars in the world.

I am a Muslim and I totally agree with you @ria1606roy. The world should unite against these terrorist groups to clear them of the earth. And everybody should come forward to aware everyone about what the religions really teaches. Most of these problems arise from misunderstanding the religions.

Did Jesus fight in wars? No, he told us that we should even love our enemies. Isn't that interesting?

I know that, but I am referring to the people who "believe" in their religion

Belief in a supreme power - whether it's a god or nation - underlies so many conflicts because believers are utterly convinced that their cause is righteous. Yes, the end game may be about more tangible things but what draws, and has always drawn, men and women to fight is that they think they are doing good by themselves and by the object of their faith. There's a reason George Bush said that God told him to invade Iraq, and there's a reason why "terrorists" yell "Alluha Akbar". Believe what you will, but excusing religion from so many of the world's troubles is a lie that far too many people are willing to accept.

I have to agree. Terrorists are even using their "religion" for whatever they are doing because they believe they're right.
