Who Is Charlie Carver and Why Should I Care What He Does in the Bedroom?

I saw a "trending news" item on my Facebook page this afternoon. It said that Charlie Carver announced he was gay. So who's Charlie Carver? (Yeah, I know, I'm old.) Moreover, why does he or anyone think I care if he's gay or not? These announcements have to stop becoming headline news. It's idiotic. Now perhaps people understand why the late David Bowie was such a private person that the news of his death after an 18-month battle with liver cancer was so shocking to his fans.

"Moreover, why does he or anyone think I care if he's gay or not?" Because just maybe you could stop a gay bashing and/or killing and/or firing from a job, etc. There are still teenagers being thrown out of their homes for being gay and the more celebrities whether in show business or professional athletes or the head of companies that come out the more people will realize that yes we are everywhere, we are brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, mothers and fathers! 'odd lives' 'no one cares' 'for publicity' 'something funky about Charlie'--just some of the reasons people have to keep on coming out publicly! No sir it isn't 'idiotic'--not as long as Gay people have to put up with being blackmailed, threatened or made fun of.

It should be like religion. People don't want to hear about Tim Tebow's faith. I don't want to hear about what anyone's doing in their bedroom. I'd rather say that David Ogden Stiers is a good actor than a gay actor or a good gay actor; or that Elton John is a great singer instead of a good homosexual.

that whole, coming out of the closet to say one is gay is so passe now. no one cares. as for the privacy thing, some people just know how to separate their careers life from their real life.

I agree. I think some of these celebrities just do it for a publicity stunt (not that I think they're lying about being gay, but they announce it because they know entertainment websites will run it as breaking news). A couple of years ago two country singers, neither of whom had even released any music in years, came out (separately) on the same day. They got more press for announcing they were gay than they did for their music...which might tell you something about the "quality" of their music to begin with.

people coming out barely raises eyebrows now - watched a few youtubes of people who turned atheists talking of telling their parents of that and describing it as a coming out experience - it no longer just applies to admissions of homosexuality

Most of the trending news holds no interest for me. I rarely even look in that corner of the page.
