All My Grand Kids Have Paws

Canada

It's a chore to get all the grand dogs to sit still for a photo op. Impossible actually, when all 5 are together, there is chaos. I love them all but prefer them one or two at a time. Meet Woods on the left and Chibbi on the right. That man holding them is my oldest son. My son got Woods as a puppy around four years ago. He is an Austrailian Cattle Dog and is full of personality, my son adopted Chibbi last year when the owners didn't want her because she is nippy and the new grands in the family were more important than the dog. I get that. Chibbi is 10 and nippy but getting better, she is a bit jealous of any attention given to Woods. She will out grow that too because she gets a lot of attention too. They are the same breed but their coats are different as day and night. Wood's is soft and fluffy. Chibbi's is heavy and not fluffy at all. Both dogs are full of energy and love to run and play. At my house the dogs have to be on leashes, but love going to the country to run free. Genetically they are hearders. In a group they will try to heard all the humans into one spot. It's so funny to watch. They often walk across the couches on the back of it because they like to have a view of the whole room. Outside the do the same thing, always climbing anything to get them high so the can see what's going on. The only negative to this breed is they shed like crazy, no matter how much they get brushed. I love my grands. Do you have grand-dogs?

From what I can see they are both good looking dogs. We have a Grandpuppy, Ellie, she is a 16-month old Aussie Doodle. She is part Australian Sheperd and part poodle, it seems like so many breeds are crossed with poodles. The aussie shepherd are known to be a very intelligent breed, in fact I read online that a lady had flash cards with a single word on it and the dog appeared to be able to read it and do what the word said. Ellie is not that smart, but we love her anyways. The kids are going on a trip next week so we'll have her for a couple of weeks, which we are both looking forward to.

I don't have any dogs, but love to hear about other people's. The two in the picture look as if they are being held prisoner! Interesting about them trying to herd their humans

Australian Cattle Dogs!!! Herders indeed. And of course they are nippy. It is in their brain cells. Our black Lab Leah sheds more than our Australian Cattle Dog Sally ever will. I love the photo. I have our Sally on my lap right now.

Woods, the one with fluffy hair sheds terribly, just petting him leaves you with a handful of hair. My son brushes him before he comes in the house and the birds are left with piles of fluff in the yard to line their nests with. Our first dog was a lab, he was a hairy one too

Cattle-dogs are great guardians, especially of the children in their 'family'. My brother-in-law had an older cattle dog which would herd tiny chickens into really ridiculous enclosures such as a jam jar. Instincts like herding can be really strong.

@sugartoes that sounds like fun. have you ever seen a horse ball? It's the size of a basketball but has a handle. My grand dogs chase each other trying to get it away from the one who has it.

I love how you love em all the same despite the size, age, temper, and breed. I'll make my kids give me granddogs for sure. xD My boyfriend and I are planning to adopt children as soon as we move together... four-legged-barking children that is. I grew up having dogs in our family that our family will never be complete without em. So yea.. definitely gonna have some in the future :)
