Anyone Else Still Have Their Christmas Tree Up?

United States
January 15, 2016 12:15pm CST
Here we are in the middle of January and my precious tree is still up. I don't have the heart to take it down. I absolutely love to have all the lights off except for the Christmas tree lights. The glow creates this peaceful atmosphere and it's so relaxing. Last year, I left my tree up until about the middle of March. lol Do any of you still have your tree up? What's the longest you kept it up?

In Germany nobody has a Christmas tree up after January 6th (Epiphany). I'd find it weird. Everything has its time and Christmas time is over.

Same here, while in the south of France many keep the decorations and the tree up until the end of January, weird.

There are people who leave it up until Easter. Not sure I would want to leave it up that long.

@ElusiveButterfly Wow! That is quite a long time for the tree to be up! Of course, at the rate I'm going now. I'll probably be one of those people! lol

Sorry but where I live that's considered extremely unlucky.

My tree is still up but that is in Connecticut and we are here in Florida. It is undecorated, we just didn't put it away.

@missjessicadawn I have a friend who does that but it would mean buying more ornaments, which I don't want to do.

You should just continue to decorate it for each of the coming holidays throughout the year! :-)

I absolutely love sitting in the light of the Christmas tree. I haven't even decorated the tree the last couple of years; just put on lights. I took mine down and am trying to remember to light candles every evening. I am going to think about getting some light to use to give me the same effect as the Christmas tree lights; I enjoy it so much.

@missjessicadawn I will have to check them out. First I need to use up some of this endless candle supply I have!

They have these fake candles that you can buy on Amazon. Some of them even have a remote so you can change the colors. I have several of these. I can set them to any color pattern and they aren't a fire hazard! lol I'm sure you would love them!

There's a tradition here that says all decorations should be down by twelfth night (5th Jan) or you bring bad luck on the home. I've never left any up beyond that...but my luck hasn't been great either

@missjessicadawn possibly...just give up on life now this was actually interesting because in the UK we stop at the 5th but from reading (and looking up) other peoples responses they go by the 6th in other countries in europe. I am quite interested in these traditions and superstitions

If that's the case I've doomed myself with bad luck for the rest of my life! lol

I put down my Christmas tree on the 3rd of January. I thought it was time to move on and look forward to the coming new days.

I love the holiday spirit! I didn't put a Christmas tree up in my home this year (first time ever) as my family celebrated at my sisters.

No, we took it down the first week of January. That is when we usually take it down, but one year we kept it up until January 19. (that was the longest ever that we kept it up).

January 19th seems early to me compared to how long I usually keep mine up. lol

Ours stay up at least 6 weeks, that's enough. Two of the small ones we put in the closet so we can always drag one out and flip it on if we feel like it LOL.

@missjessicadawn The big tree we undecorate but it's pre-lit so its easy. That goes to the basement. But the little one still have the ornaments on it - this is the first time we didn't take them to the basement too. We have lots of closet space so we're seeing how this works.

6 weeks isn't bad at all! I wish I had the closet space to put my tree away without having to take it down. I could just drag mine out whenever I want too! lol

OH good god no the tree comes down by the 6th of January. What you could do is get a nice indoor plant and decorate it with lights which would still give a nice effect all year round. We do not put the tree up until the 24th December but it always comes down by the 6th of January! (This year my wife put it up on the 23rd!)

We had a cut tree so its out and sitting looking sad on the deck. You remind me: now that I feel a bit better and its ugly outside, today would be a good day to tack the lights around a back window frame again. I couldn't find lights for our little tree this year so I took them off that window! Lights all year round.

We don't have it anymore. We took it down around New Years. During the holidays, when we have our tree, I too like to turn off all the lights except for the lights on the tree. It's pretty cool.
