Romania: Do You Live There?

United States

I noticed that there were a few people on MyLot who live in Romania. I always like to learn more about other countries and I did write an article several months ago for the B site. I remember some of it, but I'm not sure if I remember all of it. I know that the capital of Romania is Bucharest, because I'm memorizing all the world's capital cities and I know most of them. It's quite an undertaking though, so I've started with the more well-known capital cities. As I learn the capital cities, I also am locating each country on a map that I have hung up on my office wall. I will post a picture of it later. In any case, I can see where each country is located. Then, when I choose a country to learn about, I want to know a little about their history and then I want to know even more about what that country is like today. I learned that Romania was under Soviet occupation after World War II, which led to the forming of a communist "peoples' republic" in 1947 and that the king (not sure of his name) abdicated his throne at that time. Nicolae Ceausescu then became President for several decades but was overthrown and executed in 1989. Communists again took over the government until 1996, when they were also removed from power. So what happened in 1996 and what is Romania like today? I looked at some pictures of the country online and they showed a beautiful landscape. If you live in Romania, tell us more about your beautiful country.

One of the things that I was particularly interested in about Romania, is the Gypsies that either originated there or eventually moved there. I'd like to know more about them.

Australia is one of my favorite countries that I have researched. I know quite a bit about Australia, never been there, but have always wanted to go. Did you ever watch a mini-series entitled "A Town Like Alice." I read the book and bought the mini-series and watched the whole thing. It's over 5 hours long. I also enjoyed the movie "Australia" with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. And I have read and seen on TV many other things about Australia. Tell me something about your area.

@IreneVincent I saw the film 'A Town Like Alice' many years ago. We live in a fruit-growing area. Apples were once the main crop but other fruits are also important as are olives, grapes and vegetables. There are a number of vineyards in the area, most of which have a good reputation.

It's difficult to remember all of them unless you go over them from time to time. I know what you mean. I'm working right now on South America, because there are not a LOT of countries there. Africa and Europe will both be much more difficult because of the large number of countries involved. I know a lot of them but not all of them. Then, there are the Canadian provinces. I know most of them too, but need to review them again.

Hi. I'm from Romania and I'm new on myLot. I'm in highschool and I was looking for a good way to earn some money, so I decided to search on web an online job or something like this. I was quite surprised when I saw that you can actually earn money talking with people about different subjects, so I decided to give it a try. This is my first respond to a discussion. Firstly, when i signed up on myLot I searched something related to what I know and what I prefer. I was curious to see if there are other romanian users here or if there are discussion about my country. I'm glad that I found somone interested in romanian culture and history and I would be happy to respond to all your questions about Romania, of course if I consider that I'm in the right position to do that.
