I gotta be on drugs to be sheltered around here?

All of us have that special human morality sense of state, in which, if someone we know and love, (or don't know), comes up to us, and tells us that they need help, well, we help.
And this story isn't about me bragging on the Idea that I help others. We all do our part in one way or another, even to the point to where it was a one-way ticket. We need no thanks, we need no pay, and we don't need any recognition either. We just were instilled with a heart that will answer a call for help.
A friend of mine recently gave me the insights on his demise and asked me to help him find a homeless shelter, as well as a food pantry. I got internet and a cell, so why not? Problem is, I made several phone calls to homeless shelters, and the only responses I've gotten were,"Well, if he isn't recovering from something, we can't help". Well, he's not, "recovering", he lost his job last month and is broke for he moment.
That's one problem. The other is that these homeless shelters are letting the homeless answer the phones, and they are running folks off, not helping. God willing, I need to drive to some of these places and, "discourage" this type of behavior. What a slap in the face. I wonder of the people backing up some of these institutions know what is going on?
Would you intercede?

I doubt here in the US there are so many homless that any allowed in he shelters can o nly sta y a week so what good does do the answer is t o sol ve the homeless problem by stopping a lot of the things that can make y ou homeles like apt. o wners not throwing out people who lost their job s instead let them find a new job and pay a little more on the rent once the are working. also insead of fo eclo ing on a mortgage because the personl ;;lost her j b help her fnd another then pay do wn a bit more on the missed payments thus avoiding making people homeless.

@Hatley I so wish the world was more like what your describing. So many people need a hand up in life because bad things happen that we can't always control.

I would love to own an apartment just to show other owners how you WORK with people, instead of making a buck because you own and rent out four walls.

That is crazy and really sad. My husband and I went through that same thing. We called shelters and they wouldn't help either because we didn't have an addiction.
Apparently they have never had hard times before-if they did it wouldn't be that way! I would find out why and let them know how stupid that is.

I undersand people with addictions need help, but this should b separated from those who are just homeless. Circumstances do arise, and I don't think a person needs to have an addiction to ge help. Crazy world

It is a sad situation but when you can't pay your rent you will be asked to leave as there are mortage payments, etc tobe paid for by the landlord. Some will let you make a partial payment while others won't. It is a vicious cycle. You do need to discourage not having people come there maybe you should go there and let the director know what is going on when people call.

It seems strange that the shelters won't help people who are just down and out.

He knows he's out if he doesn't pay the rent, that's why I was searching before the whole family hit the streets. It's not just him, and his circumstances were more than honorable, considering his last check, (which he didn't know it was), brought his family back from another state because his wife didn't make enough o get back home...long story

I think there's just too many there in the states, too many for them to control. but if this is a tax paid shelter maybe you have the right to say something, but i wonder if they're going to do anything to change it.

@quarternoes I have read stories of people making tiny homes for the homeless out of scrap materials.
There is a great need for small, economical housing in England too

@Auntylou I even sen a video of this just recently. The mini-houses are 9x12 and they sit on a church propery. The best answer they have so far is,"I got a place to lock my stuff".

The one's on the other line are purposely lying to others so they won't come in. Gonna make a couple of phone calls myself though.
