Never too Old to be Romantic

As I have mentioned before, I live in a retirement community about 4 miles from the coast, near Laguna Beach. When we are at the beach, we often see airplanes pulling banners advertising different products, restaurants, movies, etc. As a result, my husband and I were not surprised to see a plane pulling a banner overhead when we went for a walk. However, we were surprised when we saw that the banner said, "Aline, Will You Marry Me?" We were even more surprised when we realized that the plane was not headed to the beach, but was circling over our part of the retirement community! I don't know Aline, but I thought it was very romantic that someone in our retirement community was being proposed to in this way!

@DeborahDiane Yes, and it may mean that the gentleman in question has some money. Many men who live in the Village are looking for a nurse with a purse, as the warning goes.

@DeborahDiane There are lots of other reasons too. Sure, it would be nice to have the companionship and the help when something needs to be done, but there are no guarantees that even this will happen. I know from experience.

@DeborahDiane I am pretty sure that a relationship in mature age can be more successful, people have learned to be more tolerant and all they ask is to share their days with someone.

@LadyDuck - That is a good point ... people are a little calmer and more tolerant in old age ... sometimes!

That is romantic. I think I've only seen that in movies. I did see a water tower in Chicago once that had a proposal on it and found that interesting.

@just4him - I got to wondering after I saw your comment, I wonder who had to "un-paint" the proposal on the water tower! The guy who put it up or the city workers? LOL

Okay a little confession here--1955--the cove behind the Laguna Beach hotel (is it still there?) we had dinner at the Hawaiian restaurant (I forget the name) and we walked on the beach--a bright moon and stars--all we needed was an orchestra playing the theme from "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" which we had seen the night before up in Hollywood---and now 51 one years later I keep on trying to repeat that experience with others!!! LOL Here in Fort Lauderdale we see those planes with those banners and we wonder if she says yes or no!!?!?

How wonderful! Yes, the historic Laguna Beach Hotel is there. Whenever we have more family members visiting than we can handle, we have put the excess up at that charming old hotel. The restaurant on the cliff above the beach where you ate may be the one that is known today as Las Brisas, a Mexican seafood restaurant. I can't think of any Hawaiian ones, although I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't one tucked away somewhere. Laguna Beach is a very romantic place! I'm glad you have fond memories of it.

@DeborahDiane No it was right on the main road--of course this is 60 years ago so I am sure the restaurant has been through a few owners! :O) The last time I was in Laguna was back in 1974 and I was shocked at how much it had changed then from a sleepy artist's colony--I can't imagine how it looks today!!! (Or is that I don't want to imagine!!) :O)
