Laughlin is 90 miles south of Las Vegas, located in the far southern tip of Nevada.
It is family friendly.
It is located on the Colorado river and has lots of outdoor activities.
When I lived in Arizona I used to spend some weekends in Laughlin and back then there was not much to do, this was when they still had the boats taking you across the river.
Now days they have the bridge so cars can go across and park on the Nevada side.
There are a lot of casinos there now but back when I used to go there they had only had I think it was 3 casinos.
I don't remember the name of the casino but one of them had saw dust on the floor and it was really neat to go there and they used to have breakfast for $1.00 but I imagine now that has gone up in price.

The first time I went to Las Vegas with my husband, many decades ago, I was amazed at the small cost of breakfast, lunches and dinners inside casinos. My husband told me it was a way of keeping you there so that you did not go to play elsewhere

@marguicha The cost of the meals has gone up some but they are still reasonable and it is a way to keep you at the place you are at.

I don't know about that as Reno is also nice and North Shore of Lake Tahoe along with Laughlin are all I think nicer places and more fun along with being cheaper.

@Marcyaz If I didnĀ“t like to gamble, Las Vegas would be the cheapest place to go on a holiday

I don't know offhand which one that might have been.
We used to go to the Harrah's quite frequently when I was a teen. My parents were obsessed with their buffet, and back then they didn't have a problem with driving "all the way" from Kingman to Laughlin. These days, they won't even go to the grocery store without complaint.

@Marcyaz I take it you went 60 to 93 then? That's a really nice drive... I'd do it more if I had a reason to. It's more convenient for us to go up 89 and take I-40 to Kingman. We're about two hours from Tempe, and it'd take us about the same amount of time to get to Laughlin from here.

I have been in Laughlin, but it has been years. We went through their on the way to the Hoover dam. I think you pass through that area on the way to the Grand Canyon too.

We may have traveled near there. We used to travel down that way toward California to see my great aunt June.

@Marcyaz .....We reached the desert just at sunrise and it was so beautiful. The orange, pink and gold were magnificent.

That's awesome. I want to go have a look around Nevada one day anyway so will have to check that place out too while I am there.

I have been to Laughlin and it was fun. The river environment is nice. If you want to get away from the casinos, it is a quick drive over the river to the Arizona side to a larger town. There is a mall across from one of the casinos which has a movie theater. Laughlin is an alternative to the Vegas hassle.

@JohnRoberts I always remember having fun in Laughlin. It is nice you can now drive over to the Arizona side but you didn't used to be able to. I never did like Vegas much.
