It's So Quiet

Just after lunch the three year old went home with mommy and daddy.
The squeal she made when she saw mommy walking up to the door was memorable. Big hugs, big sloppy kisses and yet more hugs.
She had a great vacation with grandma and grandpa.
Grandma let Sandra dig through her buttons and select buttons for a piece of artwork (idea found somewhere recently) we created. Then grandma painstakingly sewed them in place.
The $3.00 canvas was worth every cent. This will hang in her bedroom to help her remember her vacation with Grandma.

What a neat idea to make memories with. I love doing crafts with my grandkids.

I have so many buttons, and this just seemed to be something she could contribute enough that it would be special to her.

She will treasure those memories forever. I hope to one day teach my grands to knit or crochet. I love doing both.

@Morleyhunt my youngest grandchild will be 10 months old soon. I can't wait to spend time with her when she is older and able to do things with me.

They appreciate whatever time you spend doing something with them. I remember my oldest grandson telling is other grandpa, but grandpa Hunt will roll around on the floor with me...

@ElusiveButterfly somehow my comment ended up in the tag line. I have no way to edit it out.
What I wanted to say was, at ten months my granddaughter and I would 'dance' and I would sing to her and read very short books.

My daughter told me it would fit beautifully in Sandra's bedroom.

What a great idea. When my granddaughter we very small, she colored a picture in her coloring bokk, and took it out and gave it to me. Believe it or not, I still have it on the refrigerator, and she is now a teenager. I guess i just couldn't get rid of it, as she did it for me. There is a sentimental value to things like that, even if they aren't worth much to anyone else.

@Morleyhunt It is adorable, and she will always have it to remember what she did at grandma's house. It is very cute, as you did a greally good job.

I had the idea, I bought the canvas at the dollar store, I had the buttons. The rest just developed.

@Marilynda1225 answer coming, just not today. I'm feeling too much like I've been kicked in the face. The brain doesn't want to function...sleep, sleep...my kingdom for some sleep.

Sandra did a wonderful job creating her button picture and I can't believe that you sewed each of those buttons in place. I'm glad she had a nice vacation with you and has her artwork to remind her of her vacation time (probably something she'll treasure for years to come)

Basically it is a double strand of quilting cotton strung through the buttons. It wasn't difficult.

I love that! I actually thought they were buttons converted to fridge magnets - which I'm thinking is a great craft I might actually be able to accomplish. But, now that I see it again, I can see that it is canvas and very fine art. Love it!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I like the canvas and it is such a neat idea for her to remember you by. It is nice that you let her choose the buttons to go on the canvas.

@Morleyhunt I understand how hard it must have been to keep the buttons contained with a little one around. I remember my mother teaching me to sew a string of buttons together when I was about three years old. It kept me entertained for hours.

It was a good activity for her. Choosing the buttons kept her occupied. Keeping them off the floor was a challenge.

Her favourite colour is purple. Her next favourite colour is pink. If I had had more purple buttons it would have changed the look. She was very firm about which buttons she liked.

This is 40 years of collecting buttons. When my children were small I would often buy a bag of buttons. Goodwill sometimes sells bags of buttons.

@Morleyhunt as part of my uncluttering I got rid of all but a few buttons! Now this is the second project with buttons I've noticed lately that I liked.

Enjoy. I used a knitting needle to punch a hole for the buttons with shanks. Once the button was in place I pushed the button until it 'snapped ' into place. Let me know how it turns out.

Thank you. In some ways it reminded me of beading I added to dresses, just a lot less work.
