Replacing lettuce with spinach?

Iwas making a salad and though I want spinach instead of lettuce. So I added spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, grapes, then dressing. It gave it a different texture, but also a change but still flavourful. I will be doing this more often, and it may help with iron as well.

I almost always try to use spinach instead of lettuce. Most of the lettuce we consume has no nutritional value whatsoever, while spinach is packed with nutrients and vitamins. Plus, I think the spinach leaves taste better than lettuce!

I like iceberg lettuce but I agree that spinach is much healthier for you.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I like iceberg lettuce too, but it has no nutritional value. If I have my choice, I try to go with spinach leaves every time. But spinach is not always available, so lettuce is still an acceptable alternative.

@moffittjc Spinach isn't always available in your supermarkets? We have ready made spinach for salads and then just a big bag of spinach greens, so it's always available where I work at the very least.

I love fresh spinach. It has more flavor than lettuce but I think it is still really good. I love a salad made with it.

@ricki_911 I don't think I have ever had it mixed. I might try to remember to do that sometime.

Yes, I agree. It has more flavour and crunch to it. Lettuce is mainly water to begin with. Sometimes I will mix 50/50.

I think it is still a veggie salad. It tastes good with the spinach, too.

Yes, you can basically add anything to it.

Spinach instead of lettuce is pretty good. I usually add feta when I do that, and have sort of a dijon type dressing in place of my normal ranch.

@ricki_911 Haven't tried that before from costco. Where I work they have those sorts of things readymade, with a dijon / peachy type dressing.

Spinach has a different taste than lettuce, although the salad you made seems tasty. I haven't tried using spinach on my salad, but I've tried in on pasta, with some chicken (it's a weird recipe I made myself). What kind of dressing did you use? I'd probably put some goat's cheese if I had spinach in my salad.

I would of added cheese as well, but didn't have any. I used a dijon poppy seed onion dressing.

So we can substitute lettuce with spinach instead in our veggie salad . That's nice to know , though , it's seldom that there are spinach in supermarkets here .

i am thinking of their difference, texture and all that. if it is not that that big, spinach can really be great substitute for letuce

Yes, they do have different textures, and taste to them.
