Back from the dentist.

I had an appointment at 09:00 this morning at the dentist for root canal work. Oh boy two hours lying on my back with my mouth wide open as he drilled and pulled and did all kinds of things. At one point I thought one of the nerves must have been attached to my big toe. Well he has done the prep work now so in a few weeks time I will return for the tooth to be capped. This dentist is an excellent chap I am glad I have found someone who is really clever and very gentle. I was so relaxed I kept nodding off. I am not the greatest of fans of the dentist but this guy is really so good I have no worries about going there. The anaesthetic is wearing off a bit now so it is a bit sore and throbbing. I have taken some pain killers to make it a bit more bearable hopefully they will kick in soon. I have a lot of things planned for today but at this moment I am not feeling the love to do any of them so I will carry on reading some posts here. Do you like going to the dentist?

You make a scary experience sounds like a visit to the spa. I bet you have to take some soft food at the moment, not likely for you to have steak for dinner tonight.

This dentist is a diamond find. I hope he never leaves. My previous one was a bit of a crook plus he hurt me terribly. I keep getting letters from that practice to go back. That will never happen this side of me dying!

Don't even get me started on dentists. I have had several bad experiences. My teeth are in bad shape but you won't get me to one.

I have been having treatment now for around year because of my fear after the last dentist I went to. Not only over charging me but actually ruined a couple of teeth. I am paying for it now with all this treatment,

@garymarsh6 ....My daughter was traumatized by one when she was a child. And, another didn't give me enough pain killer and couldn't believe I could still feel what he was doing and shouldn't have.

@celticeagle He gives enough and if it is not enough he will inject a bit more.

Nope. The people there are very nice, but even when they are examining your mouth, it's annoying. I have a small mouth, so keeping it wide open is painful. Oh, well. I just put my mind on the beach outside of Cape Town.

That's the best tonic. I started dreaming about a nice holiday and kept dropping off. I must have looked a right mess lying there with my mouth wide open!

I don't mind if he/she is helpful and understanding. I have lost some teeth and I came to the conclusion dentures will be best for me as others like implants were quite expensive and I have to bear the full cost without any subsidy -- siva

Cosmetic treatment is very expensive. I think it is about £1,500 for one tooth to be implanted here. (3019.31 Singapore Dollar)

@garymarsh6 All told, it will come to about SGD 5000/tooth here. I gave it a pass obviously - siva

I am about to have a mayor dentist job after the dentist comes from his vacations. In my country it is also very expensive.

Poor Gary but you are blessed the dentist was a good one. We all know how bad it could be if not. I had a terrible dentist once. He ruined my teeth(some of them) permanently. So you have some good pain killers I hope. I had a root canal once, but like I said, it was the bad dentist. I would love to go to the dentist, a good one, but I am in fear after that episode.

I do not like to go to the dentist, but it's not something that I hate. I have a good dentist and I trust him. It's almost worse to go to the hairdresser.

@garymarsh6 , oh Ouchee! I hope the pain killers are helping. I have never had a problem going to the dentist, I just find it tedious that once they have injected a person they tend to wander off, and I wonder where they have gone, that injection only lasts so long.

I can't imagine anyone liking to go to the dentist, but I've learned to deal with it. I studied certain procedures several years ago so I could ask the right questions. I've had several root canals and this tuesday I go back to have a crown seated.

It is not pleasant. This temporary filling is not so good I can feel the pain. I will be glad when it is capped.

@garymarsh6 Is a cap over there the same as a crown over here? I just got a crown placed on today, where before I had a temporary. Mine didn't hurt at all, but we're trying to save a tooth that was loaded with filling. I have mouth full of crowned teeth, or so it seems.

Yes it will continue to hurt and become infected. You do not want to end up with heart disease too if left untreated.

@garymarsh6 then i will get it pullout since it was wrongly growing i think

I had two teeth capped last year and we learned that I have extra nerves in my face. It took 4 doses of novacaine to numb it!! No fun really!!

OH bad luck. My last one was so bad I pulled one of my teeth out myself despite me pointing out there was something wrong with it. I hope you have a nice dentist now!
