February 21: A Day In History

United States
February 21, 2016 10:07pm CST
I looked around for quite a while, searching for some tidbits of history for February 21st. I did find a few things of interest. One thing that happened in 1965, was that Malcolm X, a former Black Muslim leader was shot to death in New York by assassins who were identified as Black Muslims. That was over 50 years ago, but I do remember that. Being a telephone operator years ago, I was surprised to find this bit of information. The first telephone directory was issued on this date in 1878 by the District Telephone Company of New Haven, Connecticut. Also on this date, the Washington Monument was dedicated in Washington, D.C. in 1885. I found a few other things but these were the highlights.

Telephone directories seem to be becoming things from the past. I rarely use one anymore.

Most people look up phone #s on their phone or online. I have a couple old phone books that I use once in a while for my local area.

@IreneVincent If I don't know the exact name of a business I'll flick through the local guide.

Right now I'm way behind on my day to day history posts. I've got some health issues and have not been on here much at all. But, I really enjoy sharing the tidbits of information with others. I hope to get some posts done this evening.
